NOW PLAYING

Ehh vaguely. I think I filed BoM to the 'every now and then' drawer along with Temperance and Metalite. Might be worth a revisit idk

The original:

Aria - Игра с огнём (1989)

I'm listening to this album for the first time. Has any of this board's more seasoned trad nerds ever noticed the striking similarities between this album's title track and Alexander the Great? Skip to about 3:15 to get a taste:

Russian knock off.

FYI, this album is in the Greatest Metal Album Cup, League 17, Match 15, vs Virgin Steele.

Arya are more than just a Russian knock-off. They are the original Russian metal band. Sure, they sound a lot like Maiden, but give them credit for pioneering that in the bloody Soviet Union.

Sorry.

Soviet knock-off.

I've found it quite interesting reading about Metal bands finding ways to make music under oppressive regimes in countries like Iran. I also met an Egyptian guy at a Sonisphere Festival who told me it was Ramadan and therefore the time of year for him to leave the country and listen to as much Metal as he wants, drink as much beer as he wants and eat as much bacon as he wants. I told him he was a bad muslim.
