Drummer Andy Anderson has died yesterday (age 68, cancer). Known for his drumming with Iggy Pop, The Cure and he also worked with many others e.g. Peter Gabriel, Hawkwind, Nik Turner, Mike Oldfield.... but pay heed:

His outstanding work with Steve Hillage must be the most impressive drumming he has ever done. Check out this music. He commented on this YouTube video himself.

"...... Speaking to The Cure fansite A Pink Dream in 2004, Andy spoke of how he fell in love with the group's sound.

He told the site that his fondest memory was the band's disbelief at somebody asking singer Robert Smith why he'd let a black man join his band.

'My fondest memory was Robert and the band being asked backstage for an interview before a gig in Germany, whether the reason for having a black guy in the band was to do with the fact that at the time we all wore mainly black clothes with silver and white shirts,' he said.

'The whole band said nothing, looked at each other, in disbelief, and ended the interview there and then.' ....."

Good stuff. The song itself seems to be a homage to a track by Gong. A group Steve Hillage played in before going solo.
