“If I were an irate rhinoceros-skinned foam-dribbling fan like the guy that once remarked to my reviewing colleague John McFerrin that you can't review Yes in formal words and the only approximate way to do this is to put up a Roger Dean album cover and let the viewer finish the rest in his own mind, I would probably say that there's no way you can review these Cocteau Twins and the only approximate way to do that is to put up Liz Fraser's lyrics. And the good Lord knows I'm not the only one suffering from this problem - back in the Eighties, from what I've read, people were driven to all kinds of extremities, some comparing this music directly to the voice of God, others writing intentional hogwash a la"this sounds like a scorpion cocktail". It's good enough to know that no musical journalist committed suicide over the thing.”
