Today was the first day that I was able to listen to this amazing track without having to come here first, because I couldn't remember the name Procol Harum.
This was a great track to have had on repeat. I love the fact that it manages to combine the feeling of the flat and colorful James Bond intros with Sean Connery, but with the unpolished grit of Timothy Dalton's James Bond.
I walk away perfectly satisfied from that reply on that question.
Anytime man. Procol Harum, especially the first 5 albums was in retrospect a super group.
Drummer BJ Wilson was the man behind Joe Cocker’s 3/4 time signature cover With A Little Help From My Friends (Beatles was an easy 4/4) and had turned down Jimmy Page’s proposition to join Led Zeppelin, who then recruited John Bonham.
Robin Trower went to become one of the best guitarists of 70s making a name for himself and cooperating with big names i.e. Jack Bruce from Cream.
Matthew Fischer was the keyboardist that gave flavor to one of the biggest UK singles ever, Whiter Shade of Pale, tight with Bohemian Rhapsody as the biggest UK single of all time.
Pianist /vocalist Gary Brooker had enough credits to orchestrate the parts of a full orchestra and let’s not forget that Harum was one of the few groups in rock history if not the only, to have a dedicated lyricist, Keith Reid, solely to write lyrics without playing any instrument.
This is from their first live with an orchestra, 1972, right after Robin Trower left. Arrangements by Gary Brooker as I told you.
