newby's question about RIR mix

Hi all!

First of all I wanna say hello to you all! I've been a Maiden fan for at least 15 years but this is my first post here on this forum!

I have a question about the Rock in Rio mix. I've read in the commentary that Dave is on the left, Adrian in the middle and Janick on the right. However, I've listened to the CD, and paid special attention to the solos but for me they all seem to be equally loud in the right and left speakers. No difference at all. I also tried it with headphones but nothing. I also have all the other live albums and on these I can clearly hear the difference between the left and right channel (and who plays which solo).

So what's wrong here?

1. Is it my hearing?
2. My super cheap 50 Euro Cyberhome DVD player, which I use as CD player as well?
3. I've read somewhere that you need a 5.1 to listen to the album properly but it isn't mentioned anywhere in the booklet of the CD. Also, I thought only DVD-Audio and DVDs come with a 5.1 mix??

Any help on this topic would be very much appreciated!!!

I can tell you out of experience that the best way to find out which part is played on which speaker is to listen to it on Mono. I watched the RIR DVD on my mono laptop, which was adjusted so the output is on the right speaker, and you can clearly hear Janick and H, but Daves solos sounds very distant. Just play a bit with the balance and you'll hear the difference [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I can clearly hear the solos on my cd player, so I'd say it's either your dvd player is set on mono already, or you perhaps need to invest in a better one.

Thanks for the input, guys! I think I'll try it out on my laptop as well.
It's probably true that I need a better player. However, it works fine with all the other live albums...
