New Spanish FC Mag, interview with Riggs

Ancient Mariner
Hey everyone,

I just stumbled over this. The Spanish Iron Maiden fan club just released a new web magazine that you can get for free on their site. Appropriately enough it deals with the upcoming 2013 Maiden England tour and a look back at the original Seventh Tour and the Donington 88 gig. The main feature is a shiny new interview with Riggs!

The magazine is in Spanish, (don't know if we have many Spanish members here?) except for the Riggs interview which also comes in an English version! But there is lots of great photos in it throughout so its worth a look regardless :)

Thanks for sharing! I like the fact that the magazine includes the original version of the interview.

Unfortunately, I don't think the interview itself is particularly interesting. Maybe people interested in Riggs' personal life or what he thinks of modern computer technology will get something out of it. Personally, I'm more interested in the artwork itself, and he really doesn't say very much, and what he says, he has said before. I just don't believe he can shrug off one of his most complex creations (that is, the entire SSOASS-era opus) by saying "those were some random neat ideas I had". It's too powerful an artwork to have just fallen together like that.

I remember Steve Harris said he wrote Rime of the Ancient Mariner in one hour (or something around that time). :)

Are you sure? Because I think it was Rime that he was talking about, when saying that they had been recording faster than expected and he wasn't ready with it, so he felt a lot of pressure to finish it on time.

I think he said that on the History of Iron Maiden video, but I can't check right now, because if I start watching this, I'll have to call it a day at work. :D

I think I read/saw that somewhere too..

It is limited what you can continue to get out of short Riggs interviews I guess when you've been a fan for a long time. Everything you need to know is in his book really. But he is still a very popular name and cool that he says yes to do these things.

I don't know about the Seventh Son sleeve, he mentions more of his inspirations in the "Run For Cover" book.

On a side note I'm very impressed with the Spanish FC website and the magazine, it is very professional looking, heck their website looks better than the official one, and I take it it is all a work of some dedicated Maiden fans who do this for free? Very cool.

True, the magazine struck me as very professional-looking. Maybe it's done as a hobby by real-life journalists?

They had it all right in the DoD era. It was one of the best-looking band websites I had ever seen. Then they turned it into a sales blog.

Funny to see the favorite DOD song poll, Dance of Death wins with 20.82 %, Paschendale takes second place with 18.87% and Rainmaker sneaks in on third. And this poll was made a week after the album dropped back in 03.

Not really surprising, I just like to see how people initially received the album/songs when it came out :) its a piece of Maiden history after all :D
