While we try to excuse an OBBVIOUS mediocre mix, let's just hear a real pro tell things as they are. A voice of reason at last. THEY NEED A FRESH SET OF EARS.
Let me guess: that guy wants his ears to be used.

Not really mate. They discuss what is it that the producer is there to do.Let me guess: that guy wants his ears to be used.
I noticed that "metal" bands in general tend to be this exact on studio albums, while the older classic/hard rock bands don't.I wouldn't call it OCD, it's a preference. Not a fan of improvisations on studio albums, that's what live albums are for.

More like....the leader of the band is half deaf! And you answer: No, it's just Live in a studio
HAHAHA hahahaha haAHAAHhahahhah (hahahaha)I noticed the first thing that's probably going to bother me a lot in the future already:
Listen to the left rhythm guitar in both choruses. On the second one, around 4:26, after two bars where the guitar played sustained power chords (just like in the first chorus) it switches to a gallop for the next 5 bars. Usually, something like that would be a great way to have some variety, but here it simply sounds random, like someone forgot their cue. The galloping starts in the middle of the chorus (instead of starting on the 1st bar of the repeat it starts on the third).
Maybe I'm jumping the gun and it is as intended, we'll have to wait and see how it's played live. IESF has a similar problem with the drumming though. On the album version Nicko starts the chorus with a hi hat groove and then switches to the ride cymbal for the rest of the song. Live he only used the cymbal rhythm. Stuff like that is what annoys me about the way Maiden records their modern albums.
The dude is a Jannick basher lolWhile we try to excuse an OBBVIOUS mediocre mix, let's just hear a real pro tell things as they are. A voice of reason at last. THEY NEED A FRESH SET OF EARS.
The album is intended to be played in Guillaume Tell Studios on the exact same studio monitors they checked everything LOLIt is a bit of a joke. Everyone who listens to the songs in my car, Maiden fans or not, have the same initial reaction. "What is wrong with the sound?!!!"
1) Play Classics! surprisingly is not with The Fellow in Bold. This obsessive and pathetic argument that's being constantly wheeled around this forum and the rest of the Internet that Stratego sounds "objectively bad" is doing my fucking nut in. Those who keep bawling away on this topic don't seem to want to accept other people's opinions, especially the majority who like the mix.
If you're so fucking obsessed with how shit Stratego sounds and won't stop being a cunt about it then why don't you start your own fucking thread and leave the rest of us in peace?
Call it "I Hate Modern Maiden And Want Them To Just Play Classics! Who's With Me?"
