Nepotism

Let me join this interesting and serious discussion with some light comments.

Depends on what you mean? Holiday? I haven't lived in those countries so I can't judge. Without sounding arrogant, I doubt if living in those countries would be better than in my own. Perhaps it'd be cool to live in a calmer place (at older age), and then those countries might be interesting. Though Holland has a lot to offer as well.
The weather is, in my ipinion, the most important aspect to be taken into account when thinking about living in a country. With this in mind, UK and Germany are off the "big four". Italy could possibly be a good choise as well as Corsica, which is actually a part of France, is my optimal destination. It's an island, there are mountains etc...
I know that it may sound ridiculour to be that stuck to climate features but it's a part of my ecological niche: I need warm climates and  preferentially places located near the sea. :D

I believe that the weather in Holland is at least as good as in big parts of France.
Maybe it's our location, the way it's situated at the sea, but often the biggest storms pass east or west of us.
Plus I like "fresh" days now and then. I dislike constant heat for months.

2009:
Klaus was a European windstorm or cyclone which made landfall over large parts of central and southern France, Spain, Andorra and parts of Italy. The storm was the most damaging since Lothar in December 1999. The storm caused widespread damage across France and Spain, especially in northern Spain. Twenty-seven fatalities were recorded, as well as extensive disruptions to public transport and power supplies, with approximately 1.7 million homes in southwest France and tens of thousands of homes in Spain experiencing power cuts. Severe damage to property and major forest damage was caused. Peak gusts were over 200 km/h; sustained winds of over 170 km/h (110 mph) were observed, which are hurricane-force winds.

Weather, weather... All French say the same thing, which shows of course that they are bon viveurs  ;)

Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Island... some of the best places to live
If you give me Spain and Norway, I choose the second, easy.

For me the most important factors are the social and political structures; Social justice & care, good educational system etc etc

Good weather makes people lazy, if you see what I mean  :P

As you said, Klaus* mostly hit southwest France (I'm currently living in that place!) but nothing happened to Corsica.

I was just trying to be "sort of " pedagogic... :ninja:

Edit

* that guy must be a German don't you think?

We say "Bons vivants"

Outside France we say bons viveurs  ;)

A bon viveur is a person who enjoys the good things of life, especially food. The phrase is derived from the French words for good living though the actual phrase in modern French is bon vivant.

 It's quite interesting huh ? I'm sure there are some more 'mistakes' of expressions outside France
but I can't remember any other of them for the moment...
