Name your favourite track from each Maiden album

Dick Brucinson

Bruce Dolci
Which one is your fave track off of each Maiden album? Short reason always appreciate, e.g. "love how Bruno pronounces ' comes the raaaaaaiiiiin...', or 'Janick fiddles around so unique' or whatever.

My list:

Debut - Charlotte The Harlot (because of Pauls vocals in the slow mid section)
Killers - Prodigal Son (one of the rare balladish songs, great mood & vibeto it)
TNOTB - Children Of The Damned (Bruce vocals in the acoustic parts - to me one of his best vocals ever)
POM - Flight Of Icarus
PS - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (best example of a long song without pointless prolonging or useless parts)
SIT - Stranger In A Strange Land
SSOASS - The Clairvoyant (love the vocals, but only in the studio version really)
NPFTD - Mother Russia
FOTD - Wasting Love
TXF - Edge Of Darkness
VXI - Futureal
BNW - The Thin Line Between Love And Hate (Daveys solo does it for me here)
DOD - Rainmaker (one of their last short rockers sofar, and one of their best imho)
AMOLAD - These Colours Don't Run (love the instrumental mid section & H's solo)
TFF - The Talisman
TBOS - Shadows Of The Valley (like it a lot for its nods to the 1980s)
SJ - Senjutsu

Iron Maiden - Phantom Of The Opera. It's the closest to how the Maiden style would evolve over the years.

Killers - Purgatory. Not even because of the Maiden version, but the Steel Prophet cover is phenomenal. Very underrated tune.

TNOTB - Hallowed Be Thy Name. It's a legendary track, enough said.

POM - Still Life. There were a couple other contenders but this is simply the best track for me. Love the transition from the quiet verse to the distorted version.

Powerslave - Powerslave. The solo section is perfection.

SIT - The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner. The amount of amazing melodies is astonishing. Also, despite its simplicity, I love how Bruce sounds in the chorus.

SSOASS - SSOASS. The final few minutes are some of the best music they've ever written.

NPFTD - NPFTD. The main melody is super catchy and I really like the verses.

FOTD - Childhood's End. Love the tom grooves on the drums and the melodies throughout the song.

TXF - "I'm just a soldier!"

VXI - Don't Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger. The frantic instrumental section is all kinds of awesome. My all-time favorite Maiden tune.

BNW - Dream Of Mirrors. The "oooh" part towards the end is pure Maiden magic, especially the live version.

Dance Of Death - Dance Of Death. Super atmospheric song, with amazing performances and creative melodies and riffs.

AMOLAD - FTGGOG. The entire album is awesome, but this one's just a tiny bit better. The lead guitar under the second chorus (when the name of the song is chanted) is excellent.

The Final Frontier - Starblind. Fantastic lyrics and imagery. The verses are phenomenal.

TBOS - TBOS. Great melodies throughout, but once the song shifts gears and picks up the pace it really begins to shine.

Senjutsu - Hell On Earth. Steve is at his best when he simply writes melody after melody. The "love in anger" section is awesome.

Iron Maiden - Phantom because of hoe awesome the Ullevi 2005 live gig is
Killers - Murders in the Rue Morgue becasue of the same reason as Phantom.
Number of the Beast - Hallowed becasue it is a perfect song
Piece of Mind - Die With Your Boots on becasue the Ullevi 2005 live gig lol, also got a tattoo with it
Powerslave - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner becasue it is so fucking awesome
Somwhere in Time - Caught Somwhere in Time becasue it is my favorite Maiden song and becasue of seeing it live last year
Seventh Son - Infinite Dreams becasue it is so cool and special
No Prayer - Holy Smoke becasue the video is hilarious
Fear of the Dark - Fear of the Dark because of the melodies
X Factor - Sign of the Cross becasue of the melodies
Virtual - Becasue of how Bruce makes it amazing live
Brave New World - Nomad becasue of the break down and build up again
Dance of Death - No More Lies becasue I find it emotional
AMOLAD - For the Greater Good of God becasue it amazes me how Steve can after all this time write something so amazing
Final Frontier - The Talisman becasue of Bruces vocals both in the studio and live
Book of Souls - If Eternity Should Fail becasue of how awesome it sounded live after Bruces cancer
Senjutsu - Writing on the Wall becasue of how I heard it when they dropped the video and song. What a moment

Iron Maiden: Have to go with Phantom of the Opera. The complexity and the tempo changes. Sign of things to come.
Killers: Killers. Originally Murders in the Rue Morgue was my favorite, but over time the breakneck pace and kick ass solo of the title track won out.
Number of the Beast: Up until Senjutsu was released (more on that later), Hallowed be thy Name was my favorite IM song for decades.
Piece of Mind: Die With Your Boots On. Just a solid, fast-paced extremely catchy rocker.
Powerslave: Powerslave Back in the day I would have said 2 Minutes, but over the years I've grown to prefer the epic title track.
Somewhere in Time: My all time favorite IM album. Favorite song Caught Somewhere in Time; runner up Alexander the Great.
Sevent Son of a Seventh Son: The Clairvoyant. Just hearing that song gets me so energized it makes me want to run a marathon. Just a few notes of the opening bass line makes me want to start pumping my fist in the air. Runner up Infinite Dreams.
No Prayer / Fear of the Dark: Nothing to add here.
The X Factor: Judgement of Heaven. Strange how a song with subject matter / lyrics that dark can be accompanied by such upbeat music.
Virtual XI: Futureal. Love this song, just wish it was longer, it sprints to the finish line too quickly. Runner up The Clansman.
Brave New World: The Nomad. The lyrical sections are meh however the instrumental section is amazing. I was disappointed to read here that much of it was nicked from another band's song, but I still love taking the eclectic journey of this song's instrumentals.
AMOLAD: I'm not as big a fan of this album as most other Maiden fans are, too dark / bleak for my tastes, however I appreciate the stellar musicianship. Favorite song These Colours Don't Run.
Dance of Death: The title track. No wait, The Rainmaker. No wait, Montsegur. So heavy at some parts, so melodic at others. Another song where I can't sit still when I hear it.
The Final Frontier: Probably the toughest decision for me to make. The 1-2 punch of Isle of Avalon / Starblind is peak Maiden for my tastes. However if I have to choose one, I'll get lost in the sauce with Isle of Avalon.
The Book of Souls: It shouldn't be possible to say both of these things about a single song: 1) This is my favorite song on this album and one of my favorite songs by the band; 2) The first 4.5 minutes suck, I wish they had not been included. However that's how I feel about The Red and the Black. Once the instrumental section takes off it's some of the most brilliantly triumphant music I've ever heard. Runners up: The Great Unknown and The Book of Souls.
Senjutsu: Hell on Earth. My new favorite IM song. The haunting, ominous intro followed by the urgent, impassioned verses and chorus are just so powerful. The contrast between the atmospheric, quieter breakdown and the sledgehammer LOVE IN ANGER section, followed by the guitar solos... it's all just such a wild ride sonically and emotionally.

Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera (for 1st Davey's solo...awesome)
Killers - Purgatory (fast and furious)
TNOTB - Children of the Damned (just perfect...i have no words...)
PoM - Revelations (Just a babe in a black abyss No reason for a place like this The walls are cold and souls cry out in pain)
Powerslave - Powerslave (for interlude...i cry like a baby)
SiT - Sea of Madness (same as Powerslave)
SSOASS - The Clairvoyant (Bass intro and Davey's solo)
NPFTD - No Prayer for the Dying (perfect all the way...and for the rhythmic change)
FOTD - Childhood's End (the least worst of the album...)
TXF - The Edge of Darkness (Here i am the knife in my hand now i understand why the genius must die...)
VXI - Don't Look to the Eyes of Stranger (Very underrated. A masterpiece for me)
BNW - The Thin Line Between Love and Hate (same as Don't Look)
DoD - Face in the Sand (for intro and double bass pedal!)
AMOLAD - Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (one of the greatest Adrian composition)
TFF - Coming Home (solos...)
TBOS - The Man of Sorrows (very emotional, great tone!)
Senjutsu - Hell On Earth (do I need to explain?!)

hard task, let's try

Iron Maiden - Remember Tomorrow (many tears were shed)
Killers - Purgatory (what a lovely song)
TNOTB - Hallowed (well... no need to explain...)
PoM - Flight of Icarus (probably best short song of Maiden)
Powerslave - Powerslave (It was Rime for many years but nowadays Powerslave)
SiT - Alexander (epic, masterpiece etc... really)
SSOASS - Prophecy (yes! so underrated)
NPFTD - No Prayer for the Dying (the most philosophical song ever)
FOTD - Afraid (the first time i heard that melodies... o my...)
TXF - The Edge of Darkness (what a song, if Bruce was the vox in this, it would be huge)
VXI - When Two Worlds Collide (very cheesy lyrics but great melodies, and Blaze fits well)
BNW - Nomad (this is very close to Alexander quality, I don't care about the parts taken, they were upgrated really well)
DoD - DoD (ears wide shut)
AMOLAD - Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (love the Abbey Road version!)
TFF - Mother of Mercy (so underrated)
TBOS - Tears of a Clown (so emotional)
Senjutsu - Hell On Earth (some best melodies of Steve of 2010s, the last proof that the magic still lives)
