Musical Seasons

Spring and summer are generally when I get experimental and start listening to a bunch of music I've never heard before. Fall and winter are pretty much exclusively reserved for Opeth, Symphony X, and Iced Earth. But make no mistake -- those bands get plenty of play in spring and summer, too.

Symphony X in summer is blasphemy. Even V feels wintery to me.

3 bands in 6 months? I'd die from boredom.

As would I, but the Detective is incapable of being bored by something he likes. I would wager he could listen to just ONE band for 3 months.

I can't associate Symphony X with any season. But then again, I really have to be in the mood to actually enjoy their music, so I guess it doesn't matter what season it is.

Could have sworn I posted here ages ago, but obviously not!

I like Opeth in the summer, and also Paradise Lost and Katatonia. It's like sitting in the shade with a cold drink, but you can always go back out in the sun at any time. ;)
I prefer something more energetic or cheerful in colder weather.

Oh yea, I'll put on Paradise Lost in the summer occasionally.

This is based off what Ive been listening to in the last seasons and Iron Maiden is always seasonal.
Spring - Usually Heavy Metal and Trash Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Queensryche
Summer - Lots of prog music recently Dream Theater, Rush and some Machine Head
Fall - Same as Spring
Winter - Blues and music that tends to be slower Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Geroge Thorogood

That's very interesting. I'm exactly the opposite: the weather tends to guide me towards a specific sound that reinforces the current climate. It seems that your musical seasons are guided by escape, you listen to dark and heavy things in summer, bright and cheery in winter. Usually, when it's warm, I'm so annoyed at the heat that I'm lethargic and naturally I embrace more laid back, positive, "summery" type music. Feel good type stuff, which often includes some stuff that others might find dark (like Maiden). In winter, I view powerful metal and bombastic rock as a celebration of cold. A filmic, theatrical wonderland of melody and power. Rainy days = rainy music, etc. I'm always intrigued by those who have the opposite musical mindset in regards to weather. Cheers!

And the same here, especially in regards to the blues. I relate blues, country, and a lot of hard rock with spring and summer. The blues, to me, is so steeped in summer that it's practically dripping from the stereo. Blues music is sweat, it's the crossroads in July in The South, humid and painful. Again, very cool to see someone who uses music as an escape versus music as an embrace (this sounds like it could be a whole other thread).

I think I'll stop now, as I feel like I should be posting this in the Drunk Posting thread. Go figure, water all day!
