METALLICA will tour Australia in January and February as part of the Big Day Out festival. In addition, the band will perform several headlining shows outside the Big Day Out including a show at Melbourne's Myer Bowl and the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The Melbourne date is set for Wednesday, January 28.

METALLICA's Big Day Out dates are as follows:

Jan. 16 – Auckland, AUS @ TBA
Jan. 18 - Gold Coast, AUS @ TBA
Jan. 23 - Sydney, AUS @ TBA
Jan. 26 - Melbourne, AUS @ TBA
Jan. 30 - Adelaide, AUS @ TBA
Feb. 01 - Perth, AUS @ TBA

Other artists taking part in the Big Day Out festival will be announced during the coming months.

In other news, VH1's episode of "Ultimate Albums" dedicated to METALLICA's self-titled "Black" album will debut on Saturday, July 5 at 10:00 p.m. The show "explores why twelve years after its release METALLICA stands as one of the best selling rock albums of all-time," according to VH1's web site. "With its vast appeal and commercial potential, the album forever altered the world's perception of heavy metal music. From KORN to LIMP BIZKIT, METALLICA's influence on today's contemporary acts is undeniable."
