Megadeth Week on Maidenfans (July 13-19, 2009)

Well, the space shuttle was never a good idea anyway...not with its current incarnation.

I'm guessing the historic event is the moon landing as it has it's 40th anniversary next week.

Took my kid to meet Buzz Aldrin the other day.  He's pitching a book and making a bunch of appearances re the 40th Anniversary.  Bit of an old coot, but nice to the kids.  Those Gemini and Appollo astronauts had gigantic nuts.  LC, be sure to note that in your article.  Gigantic nuts.

Is next week's band The Who, in honor of Keith MOON?

Maybe.

And, maybe not.

I listened to a bunch of Megadeth yesterday. Started with Rust In Peace, and let it keep rolling thru the discog until somewhere in Cryptic Writings. That 3-album stretch (RiP, SoD, Y) is just amazing. My favorite 3 albums. Consistently great, unlike what came before and after.

Massive brass balls.

SoD? Wasn't it Count Down to Extinction?

Of course, you're right. I always get those titles confused because the SoD song is the first thing I think of when I think of that album.

That's why the Saturn rockets were so huge. In addition to the payload, they had to lift those massive brass balls into space. That alone probably accounted for at least 20% of the fuel needed.

As everybody does. I know it's a very overplayed song, but it might just be one of the best heavy metal tracks ever.

I noticed that the version of Trust that's on Cryptic Writings is slightly different than the version of the song on Greatest Hits: Back to the Start. And even though I heard the latter version first, I much prefer the first version (even though it is only minutely different). The most difference is in the instrumentation of the intro, the cello´s or whatever string instrument it's supposed to sound like are louder and sound more like real cello and not like synth. Anyway, speaking of Cryptic Writings, I think that is also one of Megadeth's better albums. I give it an 8/10.
