Manic Street Preachers

And on Manic Street Preachers related news, James Dean Bradfield's first solo album 'The Great Western' will be reissued on coloured vinyl and Nicky Wire's second solo album 'Intimism' will be released physically for the first time on Saturday 18th April 2026 for Record Store Day.

Both releases support War Child, with £1 from every copy sold going to their work with children affected by conflict. :)

The Manic Street Preachers were great at the Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust. Some deep cuts, a couple of covers, some oldies that have not been played for quite a while… A fantastic night raising money for a great cause!

The price of the special event T-shirt was £25, with 90% of the money going to the charity. It made me wonder of the massive cut some bands get when selling mass-produced T-shirts for £40!

Can’t wait to hear what comes next from the band. Some sort of anniversary celebration being 40 years since they formed in Blackwood?

Autumn co-headline tour with Suede. It was great outdoors in 2024 (I saw them at Cardiff Castle and London’s Alexandra Palace), so I will try and see them indoors at the O2. :)

Last Friday I saw this at the Jenny Saville Anatomy of Painting exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Quite striking and huge!

So I went to Wales on holiday (such a lovely country full of friendly people) and, by pure chance, ended up seeing the locations of some of the band’s album covers:

- North Beach in Tenby (The Ultra Vivid Lament).
- Big Pit National Coal Museum in Blaenavon (National Treasures).
- Severn Bridge (Rewind the Film).

If you add to this that back in 2011 I saw Black Rock Sands near Porthmadog (location of the cover of This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours), I am not that far from completing their whole discography.

Here’s a picture I took at the Big Pit National Coal Museum (where the hatred for Margaret Thatcher is, as should be, still alive).
