Maidenfans March Madness

It's time for Maidenfans March Madness, which I hope will become a yearly thing.

For those of you who don't follow NCAA basketball (including me), March Madness is the yearly college basketball single-elimination tournament. 64 teams go in and only 1 comes out. Lose a game, you're out. This will be the same sort of thing. There's 64 songs nominated, based on the last rankings (2008), so no Final Frontier songs. Will make next year more interesting!

Each song has been assigned a seed and a division. There's four divisions (The Bruce Dickinson Scream Division, 'Arry Harris Gallop Division, Dave Murray Ever-Present-Smile Division, and the Nicko McBrain Madhouse Division). The winner of each division will win their division's trophy, and get a chance to compete in the Final (Frontier) Four for the Adrian Smith Trophy of Divinity and Excellence. The song that proceeds furthest from its seed will receive the Janick Gers Spinorama Underdog Award. The high-seeded song that flops earliest will get the Paul Di'Anno Couldn't Make It The Whole Stretch Award, and the song with the most vocal support will get the Roderick Bloody Smallwood Number Plate Award.

If you feel particularly ambitious, post your brackets here once I get all the polls up.

New Rule: Ties in the opening round will be determined by coinflip, wherein heads favours the higher-seeded teams. In later rounds, the team with the highest vote differential will be awarded the tie breaker. No shootouts in Maidenfans March Madness.

Are this year's results going to effect next years seeding ? Or just the new rankings ?

Great idea by the way.

Yep! As I update the results each year, that will create new seeds.

I don't expect to see too many changes, but one never knows. Juggling the seeds alone will make for new matchups. Next year we toss in TFF. That'll make it very interesting!

Who the hell would I invite? :P

Maybe we'll do bands for the Invitational. Or great albums.

There are plenty of good songs that didn't make the big dance (Prowler, Wrathchild, Run to the Hills, Flight of Icarus, 2 Minutes to Midnight, The Clairvoyant, No Prayer for the Dying, etc). At least enough for a field of 32.

Run to the Hills was in the dance. I think next year's will rock.

This year's will also rock. Good call to keep the TFF songs on hold until next year though. I still don't understand the hype the WTWWB is getting, we'll see if it's me or the masses that come around over time.

Its ok, nor do i. at least this gives further time for people to finalise their descisions for TFF songs... and see some live  :)
