Maiden with orchestra

Right, but an orchestra doesn't just sit down and perform. Someone has to write the parts first. That's far more important than which orchestra plays the parts.
Are you suggesting someone in Maiden should be involved? If so, I'm suggesting this is unlikely.
Ehh, Maiden should ask a high profile international orchestra. Not the other way around. They're in Paris. I'm sure that there is some good groups/orchestras around.
I'm not talking about this album, I'm talking more generally. What if they don't feel inclined (as would seem apparent, at present) to approach an orchestra? How, hypothetically, might this project get off the ground? I'm merely suggesting that the enthusiasm (& all the running) might come from the orchestra side.

I'd like them to play with an orchestra, but only if they rearranged the songs around. Something like S&M wouldn't work... Metallica just played everything the same with orchestra playing something else in the background. IMO for an orchestra to work with Maiden's music, they'd have to rearrange the songs so that some vocal parts are done with choirs, some riffs/melodies with strings etc. Some songs like say, Paschendale, Empire, Journeyman, wouldn't need that, but they don't have enough of those for a full show.

One of the problems with Metallica's S&M is that the orchestration was not very good, and seemed to distract from the songs, and not add to it. I would hate to see that happen for Iron Maiden.

Well, Michael Kamen is certainly a very good composer and conductor. You can check the films he has scored for here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Kamen#Film_scores

The problem was that it was Metallica AND a symphony orchestra so basically Metallica played their songs as per usual with an orchestra blaring on top of it. Like NP said - they need to rework the songs FOR orchestra to make it awesome.

I'm sure Maiden would have been able to find an orchestra and a conductor and work WITH them to create some more classical parts in Empire for example..

S&M was bloody awful IMO, when I listened to it I just wanting the orchestra to stop playing, added nothing and made the songs sound worse, pointless !!

I disagree. Kamen was average, no more. I also agree that he largely wasted the opportunity of S&M with pedestrian orchestration. Kamen's debacle is exactly why I say, pick the orchestrator first!

His orchestrations on The Wall are pretty great though. Especially during "Comfortably Numb", "Is There Anybody Out There?" and "Nobody Home".

Same for The Final Cut.

Yeah. Metallica is not that suitable for orchestration in the first place...especially not when they just want to play the songs like they are used to and have a classical orchestra backing them up...There were a few tracks that worked well, Nothing Else Matters, Call of ktulu...but when you want to play Master of Puppets the orchestra is just there to add more pomp and power.

They could have done a lot more with this project. Perhaps reworked some of the stuff together with Kamen.

An orchestra playing their own version of Maiden could work quite well. There's much more freedom for the orchestra to use all its capabilities. An orchestra playing with Maiden is two groups, both of which cover the full sonic spectrum, trying to share the same space. It's more limiting to both groups.
