Maiden Tour 2014 (SPOILER TAGS REQUIRED WITHIN)

I'm still a little puzzled by Rod's statement on the official website about them visiting places they missed in 2013, on this leg of the ME tour. I'm sure everyone seeing them in 2014 will be super excited, & that this will be seen as a grumble (I probably am grumbling, right now), but this whole tour still seems strangely unplanned looking; specifically it dragging into another year at the, perceived, expense of getting on with a studio album.

The 2014 leg/tour has 20 dates, but only sees them visiting six countries that they did not visit in 2013; namely Hungary, Denmark, Bulgaria, Serbia, Norway, & Luxembourg. So, hardly living up to Rod's claim. I know there's a mix of Maiden-only shows & festivals dates, but some countries haven't just been visited twice (or three times, or four times) over 2013 & (forthcoming) 2014; they've played in Spain five times & Germany eight times. Doesn't really strike me as a particularly well spread world tour overall.

It's even more odd when you think of the fact that, by the end of the tour, they won't have been anywhere further East than Bulgaria. No Russia, India, Japan, Australia or New Zealand. But some European countries get 5-8 shows and the US gets two legs!

This leg is obviously built around summer festivals in Europe. And... yeah, I think that's all there is to it.

It's just weird is all. Seems like they always have a few festival gigs in Europe and then do the usual world-hopping bit. Not so this time around.

And a fairly representative part of this forum comes from these countries, so shut up, you're grumbling. <_<
I didn't say that was a bad thing or shouldn't be acknowledged; I'm just making the point that all of these countries could surely have been squeezed into the original European leg of the ME tour in 2013? It's a fair point.

They played two dates in Russia in 2013 & Turkey (which they also played on the 2013 leg of the ME tour) is further east than Bulgaria! :p

Indeed, indeed. It could still have been planned better though.

Whoops. How did I miss those dates? I promise it's not due to a lack of basic geographical knowledge :P

Still, no "'round the world" leg is a bit strange, especially since they've really already done a "Euro summer festival" leg already.

I think it comes down to Bruce's old airline went under and they did not get a deal on a plane that worked for them to tour Asia/the Pacific.

Well they (Steve I think it was) did say something about having something else to do later in the year, something that would be of interest to fans. So either that's a red herring or they're actually going to work on a new album once Steve finishes the short run of British Lion stuff.
