Although Perun already stated that there is no sense in labelling Maiden, I will do so anyway
And if you ask me if Maiden got more prog nowadays, I'd clearly say yes!
Before anyone starts telling me now "It sounds nothing like Dream Theater!!!?!?ZOMG!!111eleven", let me explain:
The songs on the new album (as well as some of the last two records; Thin Line for instance, or Nomad (BECKETT!!!) have a strong 70's vibe to it (lots of Wishbone Ash feel here, and the Legacy is very zeppelin-esque!) and this is where the band takes their inspiration from.
As the guys got older, they're not as aggressive and raw as they used to be, the songs got more intricate, more "mature" and - with the influence of their old heroes - got more Prog Rock than Metal.
I've talked to alot of longtime fans about it, they all say Maiden "lost" their "in-the-face" quality, which is true to some extent.
But as I'm quite a prog nutter, and I really like the old 70's bands, I don't really mind.
Maybe some of you do, maybe some disagree, but that's my 2 cents about this. And to bring it to an end: Thank you, Lord 'Arry, for this fine new record!
