It surely shows how Kevin feels about the mastering of DOD and what they did in order to avoid this in the later albums
 
The Final Frontier was sent away for mastering by Bob Ludwig though. If I remember correctly, they did master A Matter of Life and Death, but neither Steve or Kevin was pleased with the results so they went with their own master for that album.
 
I'll take your word for it Maturin.Atleast none of the latest albums was compressed and boosted like DOD
 
@Maturin - that's right, they weren't happy with the results for AMOLAD so they used the unmastered version.

However, I didn't know that the DOD master was done in such a way... No wonder the album sounded crappy... Steve really shouldn't have anything to do with mixing and especially mastering the album :facepalm
