Bear with me.....

Tea is an any time of day drink, when beer is not appropriate, that is. Afternoon tea is like a mid-afternoon mini meal, something like tea and cake or tea and scones, maybe a little light sandwich. Very old fashioned concept, although I'm sure cricket matches still involve some sort of afternoon tea. High tea is a fancy version, with more food.

I'm familiar with the concept of afternoon tea as a meal, but I (mistakenly) thought one wouldn't usually drink tea until after lunchtime anyway. But that's probably my caffeine-brainwashed prejudice talking
