Yeah, it was bloody strange.  It was a good experience, it's made me start to really learn Unix more than I have to.

One of the reasons I put Linux on my laptop was to become a little bit more familiar with Unix. Only if my job was to change would I need to know about Unix on a professional level, but you never know - I could be made redundant tomorrow (another victim of the credit crunch) and have to find another job.

Yeah, I know.  It's not a bad idea for me either.  I think we're going to rebuild my old desktop and Ubuntuize it.

Wow.  Say that 5 times fast.

Hey, I'm going at 1 1/2 weeks, and no problems yet with the old lappy running Ubuntu.

That's good!  It's really not a bad OS.  Once you learn to crossthread things (something I intend to experiment with on my old computer) then you can start really going.

I need to wait till people write some more drivers and such before I put it on Doomcompy, though, I think SLI support is lacking in some cases.

Here's one thing I like about Linux - it can see all my WinXP drive on my laptop, but Windows can't even see my Linux partition(s) at all. And because it can it enables me to locate the Linux and the Windows versions of the Thunderbird profile in one place - on the WinXP partition. Far neater, methinks.

Fair does, you can't expect Microsoft to spend time and money to develop a tool that can interrogate a Linux file system. I mean, it's not like they have the resource to do it. Saying that, there could well be a tool out there that can do it, but it will cost.

Well, I'll be Crossthreading apps to run in Ubuntu, I have the power to do it, so why the hell not?  I just want to make sure I can use my full gpu power when I do it.

But seeing how we're not talking about the French monarch,
I'll just leave this here in case of an emergency...

Today is the first time I'm grilling this season. And I started reading the Aeneid for no particular reason.

Way to go on both!!

I actually try to grill all winter long... I actually need to go and fill one of my tanks.  And, yes, we can debate the taste of charcoal vs propane, and charcoal does, indeed, taste batter.  However, when I come home at night, it is just easier to fire up the propane, toss on a steak, brat, or burger (or chicken, yum!) and get it over with.

However, there is a certain satisfaction with drinking a beer or 4 while getting the coals hot and grilling... hm... i mite have to go get a second grill.
Hey, Per... what are/were you grilling?

So, arguably the two biggest Sci-fi shows on UK TV are Primeval and Doctor Who - and they are shown on rival channels (ITV and the Beeb respectively). Usually, the current series of either show will not conflict as they run at different times of the year - and as the target audience (and the actual audience) are pretty much the same, it's a wise move on the schedulers part.

But, the current series of Primeval is now running and showing the third episode on prime-time TV (Saturday early evening) - so why the hell has a special Doctor Who episode being scheduled to be shown at the same bloomin' time.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Thank God for PVR's. But still - AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I haven't seen Primeval yet.  However, I do love the new Dr Who!  Tho, there is a new Dr, correct?  I haven't seen the change yet.

Not yet, he comes into play after the three summer specials. A young guy in his twenties (Matt Smith) get's to play him next year.

cool!  I was thinking a Christmas special, but summer works just fine for me!  I am hoping to catch that.

If you haven't seen Primeval then you are missing a good show. It's not as cerebral as Doctor Who (although it has it's moments), it's a good fun show. What the premise is about is that we have what are called anomalies popping up here and there which are gateways into another time - past or future. So we could have a velociraptor come through it one day and then a creature that is how humans could evolve in several million years time. And the focus is on a Government funded team that is to study these anomalies - and occasionally go through them.

And yes, Red Dwarf is back. I am looking forward to that one.
