Actually, that's a coincidental homonym. There is a legend about a glove being thrown into the well of Antwerp that is supposed to be the origin of the name, but it is documented that this story was invented in the 15th century to explain the name. Actually, the name Antwerp most probably either comes from an de warp, meaning "at the wharf" indicating the original nature of the town, or from Latin Ante Verpia, meaning "against the river".
