Following the order of operations....

2^11/4+1

2048/4+1
2048/5
409.6
But if we follow the order of operations, the division needs to be calculated before the addition, so...

2048/4=512
512+1=513.

Is it 11/(4+1) or (11/4)+1? Or is it even ((1+1)^(11/4)) + 1?

In any case it shouldn't be too hard if you use a calculator... I mean, seriously. If I'm going by the first case, it's just 2^(11/5). 11/5 is 2.2. So, it's basically 2^2.2, which is ~4.6.

yeah that's the logic !!

Yeah... had to close up the place.  Tho I did get to ride my motorcycle, and it was a great ride (bout 50 miles).

I know and understand where Perun is coming from - however, I was just elaborating on how LC calculated it - by using order of operations. To put it simply, what is in the brackets (parenthesis) is calculated first, then the power of, then the division and finally the addition. This gives us 513.

Tap that calculation into a scientific calculator and that is what you will get. Or try putting =(1+1)^11/4+1 into a spreadsheet cell and it will give us 513.

One of the first things you are taught when studying programming is the order of operations (along with truth tables).

I wonder why salespersons aren't given truth tables... ;)

stand a little farther back... when I saw this walking down an isle in the cd store, it kinda looked like.... female anatomy.

Heh, heh.  The other day I read a discussion on this resemblance on the Metallica website, I believe.
