That was heavy metal battling turbo folk :D

I think I'm gonna go with some

I spent a good portion of the time imagining what I would do if zombie apocalypse started right there and then. People died but at least I made it to my safehouse :nana:

<Mosh> One thing I really loved about TFF
<Mosh> they took a lot of things they were doing with AMOLAD
<Mosh> and expanded on them, really refined those things
<Mosh> I feel like Maiden doesn't do that much
<SinisterMinisterX> Yes, but they need to change some of that now.
<SinisterMinisterX> Maiden has tropes too.
<Mosh> each album is like a clean slate, but TFF really felt like a successor to AMOLAD
<Mosh> of course
<LooseCannon> Yeah, TFF really feels like a progression from AMOLAD. They went...I guess the only word I can add to it is brighter
<Mosh> And I'm hoping for something fresh next time
<Mosh> Brighter yea
<LooseCannon> I felt like some albums were progressions. NotB>PoM>Powerslave feels very natural when I listen to them back-to-back-to-back
<SinisterMinisterX> I'd like to hear less of Nickos 3-3-2 drumming.
<SinisterMinisterX> I'd love to hear some backbeats again.
<SinisterMinisterX> SIT fits in there too
<Mosh> yea definitely
<LooseCannon> to an extent.
<Mosh> One thing I'd like to continue is strong influence from H
<LooseCannon> The synths break it for me.
<Mosh> also holy shit
<Mosh> we're talking about Iron Maiden in the maiden chatroom :D

@SinisterMinisterX - by 3-3-2 drumming, you mean the type of beat found for example in Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (2:26 onwards)? Nicko uses that a log more than other drummers, but I have always thought of it as one of his "signatures", so I have nothing against it appearing on at least one song on each album.

When it comes to backbeats: I'm not great at drumming terminology, but I like to think that I understand what you mean when I hear it - so could you provide an example?

Yes, exactly like that part of Loneliness. Another example is Starblind - not that exact pattern, but huge swaths of the song have a very odd drum pattern that I think fights the beat more than help it. The whole chorus, Starblind Wilson and all that.

A backbeat is the name for a standard rock beat. The name comes from having the snare drum on 2 and 4 - the "back" of the beat, since 1 and 3 are the traditional downbeats. I don't mean that I want Nicko to go Virtual XI on us, but just put the snare back on 2 and 4 sometimes. Be a drummer, don't play with the guitars. Let them do their riffs and let's see Nicko groove.
