We have some Linux servers. We are a mix of really good stuff and really or almost out of date stuff.

I upgraded about 325 workstations to Win 7 with Office 2010. We have about 35 left on XP/ Office 2003.

Our servers are a mix of Server 8, Server 2003 and Linux (where we can use it).

No, except this idea of having "libraries" in addition to the file/folder structure. At first I just found it confusing, and I still don't see how it makes the operative system more user friendly for me. But I guess I'm just a conservative, slow guy who would've been better off born in the age of slide rules and logarithm tables.

I've never actually used a computer with a Linux OS, but I've accessed a remote server with a program called PuTTy.

There's no functional difference between XP and Windows 7 for day-to-day use.
Nah, they are similar. I like some of the things gained, miss a few things lost. My main goal was to replace XP because security patches are done in April :/

Yeah, I putty into different things-- usually routers and such. If you want a really easy to use Linux OS, run Ubuntu. It's easy to install and easy to use (I have it on my 17 year old daughter's laptop). Also, many people like Debian, tho I've never tried it.

I haven't a clue what Debian is. :P One of my friends managed to annihilate one of her laptops by splitting the hard drive into two operating systems: Windows and Linux.

Yeah, that can happen. I think, if you set it up right, it will work ok. The trick is to install Windows first, then install Linux after. Then, when you are booting, Linux will give you the option of which OS to boot into. My supervisor does it all the time.
