Then riddle me this: How do you use language if you haven't learned it? I could see us reaching a consensus in the idea that education and the development of language went hand in hand.

The evolution of language most likely involved a combination of cultural and biological evolution, working on different timescales. Much current thinking on the evolution of human cognition emphasizes the importance of sociality. In short, humans became smarter in order to deal with other humans, and to keep track of increasingly complex social relationships. This could lead to more complex communication, to share information as well as to increase the cohesiveness of the group. If communicative ability became important for integration into social groups (and thus for successful reproduction), any traits that improved acquisition and transmission of language would be selected for (there is a lot of debate on how much of human language is innate). Language would in turn facilitate the transmission of other types of knowledge, enabling advanced cumulative culture.

I get that.... I'm ready for my second cup of coffee. Which sucks, cus I've been here for almost 3 hours and cup 2 should be empty.

But busy days go quickly.

Two cups in three hours? I usually fetch my first while my computer is booting, and number two before an hour. Before lunch I usually drink three-four cups, and during a normal work day five or six.

Speaking of six - it is soon six o'clock. Time for me to go home.

A cat makes the news today here, being severely hurt in its vaginal and rectal zones after being raped by a man several times. Don't know what can I say, really.

That's horrible! I really don't understand why people do stuff like that. It really really boggles the mind....and it's disgusting.

I usually get logged in and get my first cup also. Today, though, I had a lot of running around going on, so I couldn't drink my coffee :( But, I finally did get back to the coffee pot for more. (to be fair, I'm drinking out of a 'thermos cup' which holds about 16 oz of fluid)

I have a friend that used to be a probation officer for sexual offenders and he told me some really nasty stuff. I don't like to think about it.

I think I mentioned on here a few days ago that everyone should be able to have a cat.
I changed my mind.
