I have a bunch of friends from the Twin Cities area. My mom is from Willmar, about 2 hours due west from the cities. I hope you're a huge Twins fan, Travis!!!

@Travis, Cool map!  I was up by Rochester last year-- we go up and watch the National Motocross up there, at Spring Creek in Millville.

Thanks, dude!  Tho, I expect them to not make the playoffs.... so, this year looks pretty slow for my teams: KC Chiefs will be (at best) 5-11, Cubs will finish out of the race... tho, seems the Blues may not be too bad...

Just found this ... rare color photo of the Beatles in 1957.

Left to right:
George Harrison, age 14
John Lennon, age 16
Paul McCartney, age 15

Somehow, I suspect those young chaps will do better than these guys:

Before you laugh too hard - the guitarist on the right is now playing with Foreigner.

Ouch. The vuvuzelizer ...

By the way, a famous Norwegian trumpet player was interviewed by NRK today and challenged to try to play a vuvuzela. He actually managed to get a variety of notes from it, like a signal horn. He still remarked that he found the vuvuzelas "very annoying".

I really don't mind them. Probably I would more if I was there.

I am seriously hoping the US wins the bid for 2018. I would love to go to an England game.

Isn't it time for a European country again in 2018? Three consecutive World Cups outside Europe would be a record. And the US hosted as recently as 1994. I hope England gets the tournament (because it will be much, much cheaper for me to go there than to the US  :D)

As for the vuvuzelas - I don't have a problem with the sound of them per se, but the fact that they drown out most other atmosphere in the stadium annoys me. In some matches one can't even hear a difference between a goal and the ball being passed around in midfield.

It is like a swarm of angry hornets.

There is no continental rotation any more. The only prerequisite is that the continent chosen cannot have hosted the World Cup in the preceding 2 tournaments. For 2018 only Africa and South America will be ineligible.
