Kerrang Magazine Iron Maiden Tribute CD

Sam Goody's doesn't even exist in my part of the world anymore. I'm going to have to take a trip to Richmond next week and go to the only remaining record store I know of there... Plan 9.

Listening to Brave New World now, I think this is the best of the three "non-metal" covers. They use the original melody a lot more, only the vocal melody is altered. Nice guitar solos as well, some of it sounds like some of Davey's slow intros (which I love, especially the one in Still Life).

Wow, that second part (esp during the first chord, starting @ about 3.32) of the solo sent shivers over my skin. Beautiful stuff.

If I find one, I'll grab a second and PM you.

I've listened to them on YouTube over and over again.  My top four covers are: Hallowed By Thy Name, Remember Tomorrow, Fear of the Dark and To Tame a Land.  Running Free deserves a special mention.

For me it's a hit and miss album. Some songs are great, others mediocre. Gallows' cover of Wrathchild is the only song I really hate. And while I don't really love Metallica, I'd say their cover or Remember Tomorrow is the only song on the album that surpasses the original.

See I thought Remember Tomorrow was a bit "Meh". I like the two tracks that were a bit different, BNW and Run to the Hills. Trivium and Gallows are a bit shit. Other than that I think its all good stuff. Was a bit dissapointed with Coheed & Cambrias cover. I thought they would do something a bit different.

I've been listening to this CD a good bit over the past week or two and overall i think it's a good CD. I didn't like the Machine Head and Metallica tracks on first listen but i have to say they have grown on me and are quite good. The "re-worked" covers of Run To The Hills, CSIT and BNW are excellent in my opinion, they were some of my favourite tracks on there. I think Dream Theater's version of To Tame A Land was the highlight for me though.

My least favourite one on there is Wrathchild, i'm not a massive punk fan so it probably wasn't going to be a winner for me. I wasn't too mad about Trivium's version of "Iron Maiden" or Coheed and Cambria's Trooper either but overall it's a pretty decent CD.

I totally agree on the covers by Trivium and Coheed and Cambria, not very good at all. The album as a whole is very good however, I am really enjoying the different takes on the songs and the actual track listing itself. Very nice.

It does give a better appreciation of Iron Maiden as well (as if one were needed). To hear the differences points out how musically gifted they truly are. It also begs the question for me; doesn't anybody know how to sing anymore?
