June 11-2008, SBIT, Chicago

You guys win!  My distance to the concert is neither long nor extraordinarily short.  About 60 some odd km separate my city and Toronto.  On my way back from the last show, I overtook a car with an Ohio licence plate "Iron Maiden".  I honked and gave him two thumbs up!  B)

I think tickets went into sale around twentieth of December, last year of course. In any case, i bought mine on the first day. The concert is 10th of August. That's roughly total eight months waiting, bit more than half year passed, less than two months to go  :yey:

It's weird how time passes fast...when i bought it, i was like geez who's going to wait eight f'cking months, now it seems like i bought it yesterday.

the sun is the same in the relative way, but you're geting older..

True for me too.  When I missed Maiden on their AMOLAD tour I was really pissed and I thought 2008 would never come.  Even when I bought the tickets it felt an eternity away, even more so because then I had the confirmation that I was going and they really were coming.  And it really does feel like an eternity has passed since then; I've been to four gigs (which were my first four) between that and today, and I still have one 3-day festival before I see Maiden.  I'm now actually more anticipated about the festival than Maiden, though that will change after it. ;)

Hmm, maybe now that is true since Eddie has been in rehab again. But all reports I heard about the first part of the Van Halen tour (before Eddie returned to rehab) was that Van Halen was kicking ass and taking names.

275 miles one way to see Maiden? I did 420 miles each way to see Maiden last month...

Let's make it a topic for discussion (or in other words, a THREADJACK!) ... what's the furthest you've ever traveled to see Maiden?
530 miles one way for me, which I'm not going to beat this year. Hopefully I'll get to see them in Australia if they tour there again; that'll be a mere 10,500 miles.  :innocent:

Much better than the Live After Death version, definatley worth waiting 18 years to see!  Gave me chills when Bruce sang '....the RRRRAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNN!!!!!

Imagine how great that was for me Wasted, seeing that it was raining like a son of bitch during the whole show....... Bruce screaming RRRRAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN!!!!! The whole audience with their heads held to the sky, screaming back, truly priceless!

Now that the tour threads have started popping up again, I'm getting really pumped up with anticipation. Still 36 friggin' days of waiting. It's going to be torment. Oh, it is tormenting me already. I'm so looking forward to singing the following line with Bruce:

The curse it lives on in their eeeeeeeeeeyes  :D

Watched a few videos from recent shows npw as well, but on most of them I stop before the solo parts. Want to be surprised by who are taking the solo parts in some of the songs.

But I've watched Rime ... in its entirety and I really like that twist Adrian has done to his solo. I actually think that little tapping sequence is meant to recreate a part of that "Walking on glass"-duet he had with Dave during the Somewhere on Tour ...

Hey Wasted!

I was at the Chicago show on the 11th and I've got to say that it was truly awesome! the setlist was incredible and it seemed like the crowd was REALLY into the show. I also thought it was cool to see a lot of families there together. I never thought I'd see a family together at a metal show, but it was really cool.

The only thing I was unsure about was Lauren Harris as the opener. It's not that I thought she was really bad or anything, just a little "out of place". I thought she would probably fit better on tour with someone like Joan Jett or Lita Ford or someone like that. Other than that, I thought she did a good job for someone her age (22?). I thnk it takes a lot of guts getting in front of a Maiden crowd every night, knowing it's going to be a rough (and from what I've heard, a couple of times inhospitable) 20-30 minutes. They need a little polish and to tour with someone else for a while.

All around a GREAT show, and anyone else out there better get out there to see them while they can...they're really together on this tour!

Hey back, Nicko.

It was an outstanding show.  If the rest of 2008 goes to shit on me, it will still have been the best year in the last decade for me, just cause of this gig!  I have been talking about some of these songs for the last few months, and all my friends, even ones that don't know a single Maiden tune, asked if I got to see some of them.  It was a perfect show!

Where did you sit?  I was in sect 114, right on the isle.

i was there on the 11th as well. i was physically exhausted after the concert. it was awesome. i got the set list early and studied my butt off before hand. i was ready. can't wait to see what they have in store for us on their next album. amolad was awesome (saw that show in 06 as well). i was sitting in 203. third row from the bars.

rock on - oaw

Very cool!  I was sitting in 203 in '06, about 3-4 rows behind you.  We'll have to hook up at the next Chi-town Maiden concert.  I, also, am looking forward to the next album.

Wasted, good to hear you had such a great time! I'll have to wait a few weeks though, when Me, Natalie (from the board of course) and one of my mates will have the pleasure to see Maiden yet again!  :)

Thanks!  Sounds like you guys are in for a good time! (you are lucky)  I would love to see them a second time.  Its been 10 days, and I'm still pretty excited!

Hope you can catch them again this tour.  :)

I'm reeally looking forward to see them perform
Rime of the ancient mariner

Hey Wasted!

Sorry I'm just now getting back, but I was in section 112 with my wife and nephew(22) on the 11th.

Had a great view of the stage throughout the majority of the show and I think my nephew has become a serious Maiden fan (his first metal concert) as he said "I've never seen anything like that before!".

Did you manage to get one of the Chicago "event shirts"? I was lucky enough to snag one (along with several other shirts). The whole "massacre" motif was some of the best artwork I've seen them put out. I've seen some of the clips on Youtube from the Chicago show and some of them are REALLY good!

I hope they're back around again soon! I'll probably be taking my niece(12) with me then.

Its cool, Nicko!  And you were not that far from me, just a little to my right by 2 sections. It was completely outstanding, huh?  I found this forum the last time I went there, hope you have as much fun here as i do!!!

I didn't get the shirt, but I saw it, it was pretty cool looking!  My son got the Aces High (I think) shirt, and I got the poster to hang in my kitchen.  I'm guessing we'll see them again in about 2 years-- I can't wait!!! (crossing fingers)

This was by far the best Maiden show I've seen. The only downsides are the fact that I looked forward to this tour for so long, and now its over, and that I wasn't able to grap the gangster Eddie event shirt. a! It was great when bruce sat down on the monitor for what seemed like to minutes and listened to the applause while the crowd was lite up with the stage lights!
