James Hetfield

Eddie's Lil Helper

Ancient Mariner
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield performs on tonight's "CMT Outlaws" two-hour concert special, where he joins a number of other country and rock artists. Hetfield spoke to Launch Radio Networks about why he believes the country music network made the somewhat surprising decision to ask him to appear. "They think I'm an outlaw, I guess, and obviously all of us in our ways are outlaws of sorts that kinda get off the main path and try and carve our own," he said. "We don't know where we're going most of the time, we just want to have fun, we want to express ourselves, and the gift we've been given is music."

Hetfield performs WAYLON JENNINGS' "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand" on the program. He recorded the track in 2003 for the album "I've Always Been Crazy: A Tribute To Waylon Jennings". "CMT Outlaws" airs at 8:00 p.m. on the CMT cable channel. It's preceded at 7:00 p.m. by the documentary "Greatest Outlaws: The Dirty Dozen".
