Onhell said:you are officially full of it. Pearl Jam is nowhere near the biggest band out of that. After their initial success with Ten, countless fans (more than they have gained) have been put off by their "folky" direction. Maiden never shuned mainstream attention, in fact they imbrace it with the amount of merchandise and promotions (flight 666? when has Pearl Jam done anything remotely like that?)... I still say no, I am not convinced in the slightest.
Really? What grunge band was bigger? The only reasonable answer is Nirvana, which folded after 3 studio albums.
As for amount of merchandise ... Pearl Jam has released hundreds of their shows as live albums. Every single show from some recent tours. When has Iron Maiden done anything remotely like that?
As for promotions ... Pearl Jam is now without a record label, and is partnering directly with retailers to get the music to the fans with fewer middlemen. They have consistently fought for lower prices for the fans, on both albums and concert tickets. When has Iron Maiden done anything remotely like that?
And if you wish to argue about how many fans they have: consider that Conan O'Brien recently booked them for his premier Tonight Show. Why hand such a big gig to a band with few fans? I watched the beginning of that show, not long enough to see Pearl Jam, but I can tell you that in the introductions they got a huge roar from the audience when their name was announced ... much bigger than the other guest, Will Ferrell.
You can certainly dispute my claims about the importance of Pearl Jam, but to say I am "officially full of it" is ridiculous.
