if iron maiden are not a singles band then why don't they release a single that is the longest one on the album or 5 or 6 mins as it will not be played on the radio anyway [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/blink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blink.gif\' /][!--endemo--] .or don't release a single at all as i am sure the album would still sell

If the single was to long the record label would horribly butcher the song so it fits the radio or TV length of 3:30.

Look at Genesis' Land of Confusion, Out of the Silent Planet or Dream Theater's As I Am. All great songs in their entirety but heavily shortened and missing great parts so they can fit mainstream standards.

"Land of Confusion" wasn't edited down in any version I've ever heard - and I'm a huge Genesis fan, so I think I would have heard such a thing. You may be thinking of "Tonight Tonight Tonight" from the same album, which had about 3 minutes chopped out for the radio version.

Also, a post like that from a new board member makes me wonder if we've been trolled. [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

i think that the Doors' "Light my Fire" was edited too...

at least the video was [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

And also Angel and the Gambler - but that wasa good thing [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

yes but lets not forget that the total running time of a single should be <20mins.

I hate when people cut the songs down! I remember first time I ever heard of Maiden, the Out of the Silent Planet video, which was great but later I discovered that the complete guitar solo was missing! I can't even remember a Maiden Song on radio....
That's why I don't care about radio edit's....

I buy the single as a collector, not to promote them.
The market for metal is that small over here, no chance to force the band, to be played "powerplay"..... [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Be(a)st regards,
Maidenaustria

[!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--] Same for me! Promotion singles are unusual for older metal bands. Maiden don't need any promotion.

Funny enough here in Australia you dont here them much if not at all....

No commercials for release dates of new records let alone singles...

But the other night driving home from work i tuned into the radio first time in ages
and to my surprise Iron maiden was playing - Number of the beast then when the song finished they decided to play Wildest dreams... strange things happen..

The name Iron Maiden sells the die hards or metal fans always know here when release dates are of new CD's or singles..

There was an extended version of the song that was over 7 minutes long and the video and another shortened version were around 5 minutes. The only difference was an intro and a instrumental break in the middle but I have both versions on my computer if you need proof.

FTR I'm also a big Genesis fan and Land of Confusion just happens to be my favorite song.

Ah, I see what's going on here: a mere difference in terminology. My Invisible Touch album has the 5-minute version; to me, that's the basic starting point and I compare all other versions to the album. So when I said Land of Confusion wasn't edited down, I meant it wasn't edited to anything shorter than the 5-minute version. I have heard the extended mix as well, although not in a long time. But I now see why you would say that the song was edited; we were just coming from different points of view.
