IRON MAIDEN: Metal Talk feature by Pippa Lang, inc her 1980 interview!

I just read the link from the OP. What a piece of shit. A purely ego-driven piece of trash. Maiden is merely the background for a story about the OP - who doesn't know jack shit about Maiden, but fancies herself an insider because she can spell "Running Free".

I'm glad it sparked a good discussion, but that OP and her so-called "journalism" was the most worthless load of garbage I've read in years.

Well that makes me glad I haven't read it yet.

For what it's worth I think that as long as Steve wants it to Maiden will keep going no matter what.

I seem to recall there's a piece in "Run To The Hills" where Nicko(?) is discussing the future of the band and says something along the lines of that if Bruce hadn't come back after Blaze was fired/left then the band would have called it a day which Steve totally refuted.

Even after all these years it's still very much Steve's band, however much and however important a contribution the others make.  Maiden was started by Steve and I think it's only he that will eventaully call time on it which for all our sakes will hopefully never happen!

i think steve lives maiden, i can imagine him carrying on soldiering through bad times til he drops. i just hope they end on a high note

and the linked interview is awful writing. she wore white, didnt understand the importance of doctordoctor, thought nicko played satellite 15 ... oh my  :S
then called walk on eddie a disappointing lump with a guitar

Tron, you perfectly sum up my views. Steve has always had a die-had attitude towards everything, Maiden is his baby and I don't see him stopping soon. As for H, his importance should not be overrated : he is important, but not essential. On his own, he is not an even decent songwriter, as his solo career proves, so, his leaving the band or beeing sacked again wouldn't be a huge problem. Dickinson is important mainly becouse he is the singer, and Dave because he has been part of the band nearly since the beginning. When Dickie left in 1993, he was the only band member Steve has talked about the future of the band.

I'm sorry u didn't like my piece. I genuinely thought Maiden fans would like to hear about the 1980 interview. I've been told my writing is garbage and egotistical. If u were to ask Davey, Steve, Rod Smallwood, Michael Kenney or even Adrian and Nico, who don't know me as well, they'd tell you I'm one of the least egotistical people, indeed I was so shocked to read these remarks, I've been really upset since. I never said I was an insider, title of piece was 'on the edge' and that's all I meant. Lucky I didn't mention I was Davey's girlfriend for few months in 1980 or I would've been in even more trouble! I'm sorry about any errors, I'm an old Maiden fan/friend and shoulda checked facts about Satellite 15. Can I ask you please tho if you were picked out by Bruce to start a Mexican wave, wouldn't you want to tell everyone? I wasn't boasting, just chuffed, is all. And although I was disappointed by Eddie's first appearance, I'm sure I mentioned him appearing later too. Sorry but for me it was an exceptional weekend, being able to talk to an ex boyfriend I still love very much for a whole hour left me reeling and pretty emotional. I'm sorry it all came across as boasting egotistical garbage. Pippa Lang

Thanku..appreciate it. Some of us journalists are soft as butter and this particular one very sensitive lol. I know it was only one but made me nearly cry that even one person could misunderstand me so badly. Thanx again

Oh my! @sinistermisterx, I'm sorry, who are you? "So-called Journo"?? Come again?? Honey, she wasn't the review editor of Metal Hammer for nothin'. Not that I know her, but I know of her and she has been a music journo since before I was born. I don't know about you.
Why come on here and just post negative and hurtful comments. There is no need to post stuff like that. Jealous much? It is obvious that this was posted here to share an experience with you, a great interview of a band you are allegedly a fan off. Even if you don't value it, there is no need for hateful remarks. You aren't even man enough, after she has come on here and addressed you about it, to come and apologise.
Just a suggestion, stop looking down your nose at people. The world doesn't need your negativity, Thank god for people out there like Pippa who do work hard to bring us pieces like this, that share something positive, an experience, one people like you and I may never have.
On another note, thanks Pippa it was a great piece and I really enjoyed reading! Thank you for sharing with us! xxx
