IRON MAIDEN's Indian concert will take place tonight (Saturday, March 17) at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore.

Commented Dickinson, "I expect something to happen on [Saturday] and obviously, it is going to be something special. I have met people in the lobby of the hotel who said they have waited 17 years for this moment and anytime you wait 17 years, it makes me nervous because I am thinking, 'Oh shit! I hope I don't cock it up tomorrow, the amount of goodwill and the great vibes that are coming out of people.' The people are so happy and anytime people are happy, it makes a great night. So, we are looking forward to all that and we are just going to sweat a lot, yell a lot and play lots of heavy music and have a great time. That's what we are here to do and that's what we do every night."

IRON MAIDEN's last album, "A Matter of Life and Death", has been hugely popular and successful in India, reaching the No. 2 position on the Indian chart.

Cool clip. I wish I could see more of the press conference. :)

Re: Iron Maiden @ Bangalore Palace - Bangalore, Indfia - 17 March 2007

Just got back from Bangalore, tired and stiff, but happy. I got to the grounds at 5 PM and managed to get a decent place in the front. There were 3 opening bands before Maiden. first up wad F.T.N, a winner of a College Battle of the bands kind of thing. Less said about them the better. Next up was Parikrama, a metal band thats been around for more than 10 years. They were actually very good and different (they had a violinist). When there was some shoving in the crowd, they stopped midway in a song, and the singer told them to cut it out, that they were here to enjoy the music. After that, at about 7 Pm Lauren Harris came on and played about 6 songs. By now the crowd was getting restive and started chanting for Maiden. At about 8 Pm 'Doctor Doctor' started playing and when it finished, the lights went out. A short intro was played, and then the lads burst out with 'Different World'. The setlist was roughly (not too sure about the order)-

Different world
These colours don't run
Brighter than a thousand suns
Wrathchild
Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
For the greater good of God
Trooper
Fear of the dark
The number of the beast
Run to the hills
Iron Maiden

  Encore
2 minutes to midnight
The evil that men do
Hallowed be the name

The show was amazing, everyone performed really well, and they had so much energy on stage! Bruce's voice sounded a bit hoarse when he was speaking to the crowd, but he sang impeccably.
Bruce gave a speech about how a lot of people had been waiting to see Maiden in India for 17 years. but for the next concert here, he assured us, we wouldn't even have to wait 17 months. :yey:  The reception to the songs from AMOLAD was pretty good  ( especially to 'For The Greater Good Of God', And Reincarnation), Apart from a few idiots who wanted them to play classics.
Once they started 'The Trooper' the crowd went wild and never stopped. 'Fear Of The Dark' was amazing live with the crowd singing along. In the encore, of course Eddie came on stage with a gun during 'The Evil That Men Do' (Incidentally Janick was still wearing the brace on his right leg) Just like Urizen said in his review of the show in Belgrade, the show passed extremely quickly, and before I knew it, I was outside with my friends.  :(
Anyway thats it for my first Maiden concert, and what a concert it was.
"Scream for me Bangalore"!  I can never forget that :)

Although I certainly commend that attitude (see my review of the Dortmund gig for that), it is kind of unprofessional to stop during the song... Bruce usually waits till the end before he says something.

Same play-it-safe setlist. But on the other hand, most people there have never even had the chance of seeing Maiden live, so playing to them the classics they (probably) desire to hear is fair.

Hehe, sounds good too!

Usually, except when people start spitting on Steve.  :P

Personally, I feel they played too many classics.  They could have thrown in the usual 'one song from the last album, one Blaze-era song' like they did on the BNW/DoD tours...but I hope there will be lots of hidden gems on the next History tour (prays for 'Judas Be My Guide'!)

The usual one song from the last album?
This never happened. Always a minimum of 5 or more songs. On festivals, things could be different indeed, but still, we're only 1 year away from the release of AMOLAD. This is why I am not sure what will happen this upcoming summer.

We'll get:
1. The same balance of old/new as now in March?
2. MORE classics (less new songs) than in March?

We'll see !

:-) I tend to say the 2nd option. Expect MORE classics !

You misunderstand me.  For the BNW tour, they played 'The Clansman', which was from the previous album.  For the DoD tour, they played 'Brave New World'.

Neither can I !!!!
I went to see that concert from Pune (which is about 1000 kms away!)....got a thrill just by looking at a huge placard inside the Bangalore airport saying - Bangalore welcomes Maiden ! :)

The whole thing was surreal to me..I have seen plenty of rock shows but this was the first ever for a really big international band and on top of that of my favourite band !
For a very long time I have dreamt of being one of the voices singing along a chorus of a Maiden track and I got my wish on the 17th of March finally.

As supersonic said the opening acts were crap, Parikrama were okay, the duels between the solo violin and the lead guitarist were pretty good. Lauren Harris, sadly was crap, can't see any of dad's talent yet ;-)
Straight up rock stuff but very generic...and her voice started to grate on our nerves after a coupla songs.
Typical british teenager screeching voice and her...'bangaloooore' chants :s

What every one was waiting for was Bruce's Scrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeaaaaaaam for me BANGALOOOORE !!
Awesome :D...sent shivers up my spine that

Setlist was same from the earlier shows (Dubai, Athens etc)..although I agree that we should not expect all the classics , since it was the first time ever in India a couple more would not have hurt.
The performance was amazing as expected from such  a great live band and Bruce's voice was good.

25,000 + crowd , totally happy and in metal heaven...except it seemed like the show had just started when Bruce said "Good night and goodbye" :(

I know, I felt exactly the same way. I couldn't believe that almost 2 hours had gone. Especially after the joy of hearing Hallowed Be Thy Name live, It was a sudden jolt back to the real world. :(

Yeah jolt back to real world plus the sick Bangalore fact that no auto-rickshaw/taxi could be found until we walked about 1 km....or even a bottle of water !

Well we were a little more lucky. We found an auto-rickshaw after about 20 minutes of wandering (no water for us too). However we had to pay an exorbitant rate (Rs.200), but we were desperate.

Re: Iron Maiden @ Bangalore Palace - Bangalore, Indfia - 17 March 2007

Hmmm, yeh I would really like to hear Paschendale, I'm worried we'll never hear a DOD or BNW song ever again the way the setlists are going!  :P

And why would that happen?  Maiden have stated that the AMoLaD tour was a one-off, and the special shows here were arranged to please the old-school fans or those who had never seen Maiden before.  I'm sure we'll see Paschendale or Brave New World again live...it may just take a while.
