Ion Maiden tribute act

Ancient Mariner
I went to see the tribute and ‘Ion Maiden’ last night. For £12 it was excellent value. They put on a great show and the musicianship was outstanding. Considering you have to replicate the freak of nature that is Bruce Dickinson, I thought the singer did a good job. Here is the set list. I would have liked some more deep cuts, but it was a set list to please the masses. Moonchild and Drifter were fun in the encore.

  1. Aces High
  2. 2 Minutes to Midnight
  3. Prowler
  4. Stranger in a strange land
  5. Children of the Damned
  6. Wasted Years
  7. The Trooper
  8. The Writing on the Wall
  9. The Wicker Man
  10. Killers
  11. Powerslave
  12. Phantom of the Opera
  13. Hallowed be thy Name
  14. Fear of the Dark
  15. Number of the Beast
  16. Iron Maiden
  17. Moonchild
  18. Drifter
  19. Wrathchild (extra song LOL)
  20. Run to the Hills

Saw them at The Boileroom in Guildford back in February and had a great time. I prefer Hi-On Maiden, but Ion Maiden are a fully charged tribute band!

As far as tribute bands go, The Beast Experience are light years ahead of any others I've seen.

They're certainly super skilled & capable of pulling off very impressive renditions of the songs! I have bit of a mixed feelings about the stage show and dressing up like Maiden guys and all; as far as tribute bands go, I tend to prefer more imaginative ways of doing it, where as The Beast Experience represents the "as close to the original as possible" category, which can be alarmingly close to being bit of a #spinaltap experience as well. :D I know that dressing up and putting up a stage imitating the band they're paying tribute to etc. is a common thing among tribute projects and often important part of it, so I'm not against that or anything. It's just me, heh.

Anyway I've got to admit that they're very good indeed! If it came to a decision whether I'd be seeing them or (for example) some very different tribute, say acoustic one á la Maiden uniteD or something, I'd probably go with the latter, but as said, it's just a personal preference and not to take anything away from mr. Mendes and co. They're bloody good indeed!! And the effort they put to the the stage and all that is certainly impressive. :)

I agree, plus I can’t get onboard with the singer’s voice. Everyone says he sounds like Bruce, but I can’t hear it.
