I had an odd thought about IE, and their various singers, and my opinion about them...

The only one I really like is Barlow. None of the others sound right to me. And I'm sure this is because my first 3 IE albums were Alive In Athens, Something Wicked and Days Of Purgatory. Barlow at his best.

The other singers have their good moments... But when Barlow's voices defines IE for me, it's hard to accept any substitute.

And then I got to thinking about some of the people who join this forum with a similar attitude about Bruce. The regulars here all love Blaze and those 2 Maiden albums, while sometimes a newbie pops up with a bad attitude. But now I see how it happens, since I sorta feel that way about IE.

Edit: Opeth has finally pulled ahead of Slayer! Woohoo! :yey:

Forostar, I don't enjoy reading Ripper vs. Barlow flame wars, I just wanted to stir up a bit of friendly trouble, that's all. :)

I've been listening to all the early IE the past couple days. The first 5 albums, and now I'm going thru Days Of Purgatory again. I have to conclude that DOP whips the snot out of the first 3 albums. All the best songs, redone with better production, better playing and Matt Barlow. Even the DOP versions of Burnt Offering songs beat the originals.
