One thing I felt is particularly annoying is when they (I'm only talking about the people I know/experienced this with) get on their 'all the world is gay' mode, which sooner or later focusses on me. "How can you know you're not gay? I only found out myself when I was 20! You can never be sure!" That's the moment I just turn off my ears. Not only do I think they're talking absolute bullshit, but I also think that my own personal sexuality is none of their business.
(and some other experiences)

I completely agree with your post there Perun, about the "al the world is gay" thing.  Some of them (and I only mean some, not all), demand respect but sometimes they don't respect other people at all.

On the other hand. What's if someone IS gay and someone else (e.g. a heterosexual) keeps saying "How can you know you are gay?"

That's just as annoying, I guess(?)

And what a nonsense about this respect thing. A lot of hetero's in this world also don't deserve respect. It has nothing to do with sexuality.

Here we go again.... *sigh*

Everyone deserves respect in my opinion, just for the mere fact that is a human being, no matter how stupid, no matter sexuality, no matter how smart, everyone has their story, and we have much to learn from everyone, that is why it really surprises me, that you say that the "respect thing" is nonsense, coming from a guy who seemed to always say good and smart things.

Now, about the homosexuals demanding respect thing, well, I would suggest you to read Perun's post, in order to understand what I was trying to say, on that reply of yours, I kind of got the first message you meant, but it was the respect issue what concerned me, and in some point, annoyed me.

To connect "deserving respect" with homosexuals only is wrong imo, that's what I meant. Maybe we misunderstand eachother.

You know Albie, with all the posts of your's that I've read, sometimes I get the feeling you should run for the place of the prime minister of the U.K. You can put down any fire.

I agree, I think I get what you meant now. I'm not trying to pick up a fight here Forostar, but it seemed that you meant another thing.  Anyway I got it now :)

Nobody deserves respect just because they're a human being.

What all human beings deserve is to be treated with dignity and courtesy.

Respect, however, must be earned. Respect means that you admire someone for what they have done. A person who has done nothing admirable deserves no respect. Please note: I am not saying that such a person deserves disrespect. Disrespect must also be earned through vile deeds.

Please don't confuse respect and courtesy. Respect is internal: how you regard a person. Courtesy is external: how you treat a person.

Of course, the above only applies in an ideal world. I still reserve the right to be discourteous to maCUNTaima.

SMX, I never thought I would write this, but I disagree with you, but first things first:

Respect is the objective, unbiased consideration and regard for the rights, values, beliefs and property of all people. Kant's categorical imperative as well as what is commonly understood of being a gentleman incorporate the concept of respect.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respect

I think that gives some credit to what I was just saying, and also, that was the way I was raised.

My father (a navy admiral) always says, that everyone must be respected because, like I said, everyone has their story, and we have something to learn from them, and that, makes people deserve respect.

On what I deeply agree with you, is that some people can lose respect, for example, I think people like Saddam Hussein, Charles Manson (you name him/her), lost all ability to have respect.

I'm looking forward to your answer, because you always post wise things.

Cheers :)

Yet again, here's my 2c...

Where I grew up, people are very judgmental and closed minded (racist isn't a word big enough to cover some of them), and although I grew up hearing those "opinions", I'm kinda proved that I didn't adopt them, and have in fact become the mirror image of those kind of views, simply because i love freedom, no matter what's your skin color, gender or sexual orientation (as long as it involves to, or more, consenting adults)...

However, I gotta say:
Whenever I see two dudes making out, I'm grossed out... Not nearly as grossed out as when I saw a prostitute in Amsterdam pimp out her puddle (RRRRRRRRRRRR... *shudder* *shiver*), but still, not something I consider eye-candy...
But how come if I say that, the PC-police comes hopping along and bashes me over the head with a bag of bloody hammers!!???
I may ad:
-whenever I see a dude and a girl make out, i don't feel anything...
-whenever I see two girls make out, I LOVE IT!!!

My question is, why is it that because I don't flick my eyelids really fast and go "Ah, how cute...", as if I was watching a sugar coted kitten, (its just how my personal preferences are, one might say) it makes me: "closed-minded and inherently intolerant" or "conservative towards unknown / new matters" (yes, these are quotes from prev. posts, but I've heard others, usually strait girls, say that)

I've asked gay folk I know about this, and they reply "I feel the same way when i see strait people go at it"... are they "conservative towards unknown / new matters" or are they "closed-minded and inherently intolerant"..? or don't the rules apply to them because they are gay..?
  :uhm:

I'm just asking...

And since it came up:

Damn strait!!! even though everybody's got a past, and many pasts are worthy of respect, I don't give it out left, right and center...

it's gotta be earned... maybe you earn it because of your past, maybe you earn it in light of your past, or some other way... in any case, earn it you must!
