History Tour "eras"

Ancient Mariner
Well, this lack of substantial Maiden-related news has got me bored. So here's a thought...

What if, in 2005, Maiden had planned to do 3 history tours, instead of adding on Maiden England after the overwhelming success of Somewhere Back In Time became apparent? How would they have divided up the "eras" covered by the tours, and what would your ideal setlists have looked like?

Personally, I think these divisions would have made a lot more sense, and caused a lot less needless overlap, while also allowing the band to go a bit more in-depth:

Early Days - Iron Maiden/Killers/NOTB
1. Murders in the Rue Morgue
2. Another Life
3. Prowler
4. Run to the Hills
5. Remember Tomorrow
6. Wrathchild
7. 22 Acacia Avenue
8. Children of the Damned
9. Purgatory
10. Killers
11. NOTB
12. Phantom of the Opera
13. Hallowed Be Thy Name
14. Iron Maiden
----------------------------
15. Running Free
16. Drifter
17. Sanctuary

Somewhere Back In Time - POM/Powerslave/SIT
1. Aces High
2. 2 Minutes To Midnight
3. Revelations
4. The Trooper
5. Wasted Years
6. Stranger In A Strange Land
7. Where Eagles Dare
8. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
9. Powerslave
10. Heaven Can Wait
11. NOTB
12. Hallowed Be Thy Name
13. Iron Maiden
---------------------------
14. Caught Somewhere In Time
15. Run To The Hills
16. Alexander The Great :D
17. Running Free

Maiden England - SSOASS/NPFTD/FOTD
1. Moonchild
2. Be Quick Or Be Dead
3. The Prisoner
4. Can I Play With Madness
5. Infinite Dreams
6. The Trooper
7. Tailgunner
8. Afraid To Shoot Strangers
9. Wasted Years
10. SSOASS
11. The Clairvoyant
12. Bring Your Daughter...
13. Fear of the Dark
14. Iron Maiden
------------------------
15. NOTB
16. The Evil That Men Do
17. Run To The Hills

If Maiden really would focus on the albums, and if less overlap really is a desire to be fulfilled, then let's make room for that focus. This is the only possibility. You add a lot of Beast in the last two sets. Two songs from No Prayer isn't much.

Charlotte the Harlot should be added especially if "in depth" means "play more rare songs". And after all: It was played in 2005, so it isn't that unrealistic. And I would have loved to see Transylvania as well, since it's the only song that was played (1993) in the Netherlands since I am fan (1991), that I missed.

Well, I'm trying to keep it at least somewhat realistic. "The Prisoner" fits in the Maiden England set, as we know, and throwing NOTB and RTTH in there is just about the bare minimum of "classics". Since 7th Son is the main focus, there is understandably not as much room to focus equally on NPFTD/FOTD.

As it stands, there is still less overlap than he actual Maiden England set and the other history tours (no Aces, 2 Minutes, Phantom, Running Free on ME, no Moonchild, CIPWM, or Clairvoyant on SBIT).

As for Charlotte the Harlot, I personally can't stand that tune, :p and throwing Killers, Children of the Damned and Purgatory alongside the other rarities (Murders, Another Life, Drifter, Prowler, and 22) makes for a nicely balanced set IMO.

Still, I could do without RTTH. Maiden as well. There were tours in the past without it, let's not have in every three of these.

Purgatory would be amazing but not a tune Nicko could play well enough (if we want to be somewhat realistic ;-) ).

Don't worry, they'll play any setlist you show them. Just put NOTB, RTTH, HBTN and Iron Maiden and you're set to go.

I'm sick or RTTH as well. NOTB is the only "classic" I never want going away though, that tune is such a monster live! As for Iron Maiden, I don't even consider it a song live anymore. It's more like a theatrical act, marking the end of the main set.

Great. I'll take Alexander the Great 14 times followed by Iron Maiden and a NOTB themed encore please!
