Historical Figures 20 Questions v2

Asian, political/military, born after 1/1/1500 (though the first question did not specify AD, so I'm not counting much on the early end of that date range yet).

Did this person die in the 20th century?

8. No. And for reference, the date range was AD - otherwise I wouldn't have been able to answer the question.
 
The birth date range is now 1500 to (aprroximately) mid-1800s. Let's split that a couple times to narrow it.

Born on or after Jan. 1, 1700?
 
Good. So we have an Asian military/political figure, entire lifetime in the 1800s, and ten questions to get it. Seems like we need to find questions that divide Asia geographically, zeroing in on the country - guessing at individual countries could waste all the questions. I'll give it some thought as I walk my dog today.
 
Was the person's home country independent during the time of their birth?
