Helloween Week on Maidenfans (June 15-21, 2009)

So I've listened to the first four and I have to say this is clearly what put Helloween on the map, how they fucked it up after that is beyond me. And might I add that Early Blind Guardian was also very fast and aggressive in comparison to the artsy, bombastic music they put out now. In respects to usa vs europe early metal...

Like Wasted I enjoy the "minor" tracks off of Keeper II, but I really don't like the ones from Keeper I. I detest Future World and while it's grown on me I still don't care for Halloween. I'll stop there since I've been very extensive in the gamma ray helloween thread.

Oh, come on... that is a good-time party classic!

*ties his balls together*

Cause we all live in fu-tu-re world, a world that's full of love
Our future life will be glo-ri-ous, come with me, future world!

And what is this blasphemy about Halloween? So many intruiging parts, tempo changes, different moods, different vocals, kick ass riffs and solos, everything is there, even a less sweet chorus than the one in that other long track on part 2!

;)

So listened to all my Helloween albums which are all except Pink Bubbles go Ape, Rabbit Don't Come Easy and Gambling With the Devil. To make up for it I listened to Keeper the Legacy Live in Sao Paulo :). Enjoyed it all very much, even Chameleon which I would compare it to Maiden's NPFTD or FOTD in that sure it has some (yes only some) weak tracks, but it also contains a killer track (Giants) and some hidden gems (Crazy Cat).

Giants is probably the most underrated metal track on this forum.
Most people simply don't know it. If they play it, they will be very surprised it is on Helloween biggest flop album.

Helloween Week has now ended. Please join us for Dream Theater Week.

Note: Just because Helloween Week is over doesn't mean you have to stop listening to them, and you can of course continue to post about Helloween in this thread.

Also: sorry about my inactivity in this thread this past week. I spent Helloween Week with a miserable cold, and never had the right frame of mind to sit down and listen to Helloween like I had hoped. I am a huge fan of the first two Keeper albums, but the rest never stuck me that same way. Most of the albums have a handful of songs I really like, but the bulk of Helloween's material never really clicked with me. It's fun to listen to sometimes, but it's never been good enough to make me want to listen over and over.

Bringing back an old band of the week to post a random thought I just had (as I listen to "Halloween")...

I present this analogy for your consideration:
Keeper I is to power metal what Ride The Lightning is to thrash metal.
Keeper II is to power metal what Master Of Puppets is to thrash metal.

These albums have some similarities. They represent the emergence of the 'classic' sound for these genres, moving beyond predecessors like speed metal into something new. They both brought their genres into a greater spotlight. Even more: they're both definitive for their genre. For both bands, they are often regarded as their best albums.

Maybe in another 3 months I'll have another thought about Helloween...

I like the analogy... never thought of the Metallica albums that way, though I've always known that for the Helloween ones.
