what do you think of commercial success of album No Prayer (2 singles + 1 album in top 3)?
i think their highest positions in charts were most likely due to worldwide success of 7th Son and its paradox that one of the most unpopular albums was crowned with such a success.
 
I think it's logical : the late eighties are the top of their commercial success. Seventh Son of course, but also The first ten years Collection released in 89.

People can't say : "I won't buy the album because it's the most unpopular", because at this time nobody can knows it ! It's just the new album. And remember that there weren't any Airplays : so nobody knew how it sounds.

Maybe they have also benefited from a little "revival" of the Hard Rock at this time, with bands like Gun's and Roses for example. I remember I was in High School and everybody listened Hard Rock and Metal. I've personnaly discovered Maiden again with No Prayer and my brother bought the album, the first since Powerslave. So he was one of those who contributed to the succes of this album. About the succes of the singles - and also for the Seventh Son's singles - maybe it could be related with the beginnings of the CD era : something new and more attractive than the old 7' and EP...
 
The hard rock sound which No Prayer For The Dying follows (possibly more than its metal roots, even) is far more accessible than the traditional heavy metal. Plus, with Maiden avoiding concepts such as the occult, spirituality, and such, it's going to have a far better public image, especially in the time when the "Satanism" thing was still in the air (although certainly not as much as the early 80s).

So, it makes perfect sense.
 
then i cant understand total failure of From Here... single in charts in 1992. everything was going even better in the beginning, Be Quick reached no. 2 (no other single reached that number), Fear... album topped charts and then From Here... reached only 21st position.
since then IM had a problem with it. although next singles (Fear live, Hallowed, Man On The Edge) still reached top 10, IM lost the status of the singles charts breaking band.
even nowadays IM is able to do well in the charts with first singles but no good with following singles
 
In that, and these, days, Maiden isn't as popular with the MTV culture. Simply enough, they dominate most of the buying power in our music industry. Maidenfans are usually hardcore enough to grab the first single from an album, to have their first listen. But why snag the second? You've already got the album. Those who like to have everything ~coughFreakycough~ will, but even then they may wait to grab it.

i agree. not a standard one but killer. hooks in you and others are very noticeable.
i was disappointed when i saw it first - i didnt like the cover (the caricature of man with lantern) and the music too.
then i read that the album had to be recorded live with audience but production failed. i think its the great idea. i can only imagine the original rough sound of NPFTD with along singing crowd!
 
I will buy and have always bought everything Maiden puts out including the single releases that come out. It may not be much sometimes, but theres always something extra on the singles worth having a listen to.
 
I like no prayer... but the succes for the bring your daughter single was because in the u.k the fanclub asked all the fans to buy the single in the same week, so that they would enter the charts high. This happens a lot with newer singles like wildest dreams, only without the fanclub asking. All fans buy it quick and it enters the charts at no. 15 and a week later it's out of the charts again.
