It's one of the songs that's actively worse live because Bruce either can't or won't sing it the same way he did in the studio version.
I enjoyed the song live up until about 2011. I remember listening to En Vivo and thinking he was starting to struggle with it live. Before that he always carried it off pretty well.

The Rock in Rio version is iconic. Plus H in drop D! It sounds so heavy.

I agree the Rock in Rio version is outstanding, even though it could have been even better with H playing his solo.
 
For me it's the cadence of some of the longer verse lines, like "life down here is just a strange illusion" - it feels incredibly jarring compared to the studio version.
That's the one part where I find the studio version jarring, probably because I've listened to the live versions (especially RIR and DOTR) hundreds of times. That line works really well when he drags it out and gives it some room to breathe, in my opinion.
