Guesses for opener on NA Final Frontier tour

opening with a new single?  Man I hope not!  You gotta open with a punch.  The Churchill speech /Aces High was the ultimate.    How great would Losfer Words big Ora then Flash of the Blade be?!! That would set that thing on fire!! Originally I predicted Ides of March to open then naturally wrathchild to follow..this would be nice, but now I don't think so.
The closer we get to tour time, {Phoenix and San Bernardino here I come!!} the more I think this is a 'last few albums' tour. With some classics thrown in.

  My new predicted st list:

    The Wicker Man
    run silent run deep
    different world
    man on the edge
    The trooper
    new song***
    Ben Breeg
    No more lies
    losfer words big ora
    Brave New World
    futureal
    these colors don't run

      encore:
    Moonchild
    Iron Maiden
    the # of the Beast

I don't think Benjamin Breeg is very likely. Something about the way the song is constructed. These Colours Don't Run is the most likely song from AMOLAD, I think.

Actually, I find Ben Breeg more likely than These Colours Don't Run. Sure, the latter is more traditional Maiden-esque, but those who have been to the A Matter of Life and Death Tour will know that of all the new songs, Ben Breeg got the greatest cheers from the audience. Maybe that is because it was the first song to be released from the album and was therefore the most well-known, but this sort of thing still makes its impression.

Breeg works exteremly well live. Before seeing AMOLAD live I though it was a decent song, but like 1000 Sunsa and Greater Good much better, but AFTER seeing AMOLAD live I though Breeg and Lord of Light were 2 of the best on that album, much better than the plodding 8+ minuters!

All the times someone said that AMoLaD 'plods' the song I always think of is Ben Breeg. For the Greater Good of God rocks for the middle section, The Longest Day plods up till the instrumental section and the Legacy never really plods even if it starts slow. Ben Breeg plods until the intro is over and then just plods a bit faster and heavier than before.

I've never seen them live (but I've watched youtube videos) so I can't really compare the album and live versions.

From AMoLaD I'd choose These Colours Don't Run or For the Greater Good of God (or both!) because I think they'd work the best live. The chours to TCDR and the post-solo part of the instrumental section of FTGGOG are ideal live sections, imo.

I agree with Jonszat. I never understood what the big deal is with Breeg, a mediocre song with a boring intro after which the main riff is just "pasted in" without any connection. Besides that, I think TCDR, BTATS or FTGGOG are far more suited to be in a "best of" setlist in order to appeal to the majority.

(Chew on the acronyms a bit :D)

I don't think it's a bad song, I just think that it's only above Out of the Shadows and Lord of Light off of the album.

The following makes the song strong imo:
It grooves as fuck. That midsection is heavy as hell. I guess the relatively slow tempo helps as well. The solo is spellbinding. These features make the song very accessible and I guess that's why it did well at the AMOLAD-tour.

Only people with a donkey sense of rhythm don't get that.  :D (kidding)

My main problem with it is the intro. It's the worst after Lord of Light imo and it drags for twice as long which makes it feel worse than LoL.

I'm not mad-keen on the lyrics either because we don't really know what's happening in it because this Ben Breeg chap is still a mystery.

But the solo is great and it is a bit different to the standard Maiden song (sort of like a heavier The Angel and The Gambler :P) which is never a bad thing.

I don't hear a single plodder on AMOLAD. It took me many listens to be able to appreciate every song though, which I think is the reason many people don't fully appreciate the album.

The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg is no plodder in my mind. It has a very dark and mid-tempo Sabbathesque feel, a crunchingly heavy mid-section plus a haunting and wistful solo. It reminds me of a heavier and darker Flight of Icarus.

That said, whilst it would be an automatic selection for me if I was creating the upcoming Maiden setlist, I feel These Colours Don't Run has a better chance of inclusion. But these are my picks if they select two songs from A Matter of Life an Death.

That being said The Longest Day may also be considered a plodder in some circles but I view it as a masterpiece.

Absolutley Ben Breeg was a huge hit on the amolad tour.  Irvine 2006, the place was plugged in for breeg.  Tcolorsdrun is my favorite from the album, and will also be a great representitive of amolad on the new tour.  Ben breege doesn't plod.  It demands a headbang throughout and imo is a natural fit for final frontour!! 22 days til Phoenix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think they've ever opened with a song from an album that wasn't released yet at the time...

I'm gonna gamble here and say it's gonna be Wrathchild. Just imagine the crowd exploding when the bass intro begins. Moonchild or LotF would be cool too.
