Greatest Loss in Metal History

Well, that's a bird I enjoy talking to (and there aren't so many!) [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Burton wasn't that important for MetallicA rememember that James wrote most of the music. Lars did ehm a great job replacing Burton in the managment.

I am a night bird, that makes all the difference ! The symbol of knowledge and wisdom, remember that !

Sorry, just using my right of answer [!--emo&:P--]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Our resident night bird loves the Dance Of Death cover (for some reason that really evades me!)  [!--emo&:P--]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
I do like the cover, not love ! Maybe, dear Maverick, will you find interesting to read (again ?) a post written by the wisest of all the birds on the french forum, called "Marre du haro pochette", post that allow a little activity on this so quiet forum [!--emo&;)--]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
You may then find some of the reasons that actually "evade" you : just read...

Merciless, if you don't read french, I also give my opinion in the maiden forum, post "Dance of Death cover", and will be really happy of talking of it with someone who doesn't HATE it [!--emo&^_^--]/happy.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'happy.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Oups, am I out of topic there ?

Sorry, exhaustion [!--emo&:P--]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Yeah I'm the same. I don't LOVE the cover of Dance Of Death, but I do think it's quite nice. The Grim-Reaper Eddie in the centre definately enhances the picture.

Anyway, yeah, this is off topic. [!--emo&--]/blush.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blush.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Randy Rhoads

Cliff burton must be haunting hetfield and ulrich (metallica faded afterwards) but ill rate Rob the baboon a much better bassist than Cliff or Jason....

Robert Trujillo is a phenomenal player. Pick up some Infectious Grooves albums; you'll be amazed. If Hetfield ever lets Trujillo write his own basslines, he'll blow the rest of the band off the stage. (At least James and Lars, maybe Kirk can keep up with him.)

I totally Agree SMX not just his stuff in infectous Grooves check out the Basslines with the stuff he did in Suicidal Tendencies especially the CD Art Of rebellion the kicks arse.. i have seen Suicidal Twice live in Sydney first show the opened for Alice In chains they blew them off stage and the second time they were awesome and Robert blew me away the guy is one of the best bassist ive heard and there has been alot that come and go... I Think Kirk might stay with him but the other 2 nah... In Suicidal you hard Clarke and George they knew how to play well bring em back the three together hahah... sorry for straying

cheers

Randy Rhoads, an incredible loss not only to metal but to music. Every note from his soul was inspired, surely he and Jimi are pleasing the infinite galaxy with their out of our world playing abilities.

I wasn't too fond of the Ozzman sacking Jake E. Lee either; he's understated melodic force complimented Ozzy's voice in a more compatible fashion than Zakk Wylde's reckless abandon.

Another great loss in metal history was the break-up of Exhorder (my favourite thrash band as of late. [!--emo&:D--]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--] ) They only had two albums before they closed up shop.

Randy Rhoads was a god what a loss [!--emo&--]/bowdown.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'bowdown.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

how about you learn to spell his name first. [!--emo&;)--]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

but i agree...this was the biggest loss to metal.

Cliff Burton and Randy Rhodes and here is why: Both were untimely deaths at the height (both popularity and creativity wise) of their respective bands. Both lead to the same question, If they had died would their bands have sold out as quickly as they did? Would they have produced (most surely) more brilliant material? Also their respective bands released great material as a reaction to their loss because nothing fuels creativity better than emotional turmoil.
Barlow is not even close to tragedy. He was a good singer, IE's staple singer but that's it. Not until Horror Show did he write lyrics and soon after quit, while Jon Schaffer, the backbone of IE remained still trucking besides having the same doubts as Barlow.
I also won't include Bon Scott, not because I don't Consider AC/DC heavy metal (they are hard rock), but because AC/DC has released the same album over and over, they have been stagnant since day one. They had a few strokes of genius in Highway to Hell, Back in Black and The Razor's Edge but that's it. So those are my 2 cents in this long forgotten thread.

Ehm, no matter how much I like Blizzards of Ozz but No more tears is the best Ozzy ablum to me and a lot other people. It doesn't sound commercial at all to me, I haven't heard Down to earth but I doubt it's that poppy. We have only two albums with Rhandy and no complete real song written by him and also don't forget that he was about to quite Ozzy's band anyway and Cliff was leading Metallica in the direction of the black album. Cliff didn't even write a lot music for Metallica, I guess Dave has more credits. I agree that Barlow's loss isn't that big but the loss of Rhandy and Cliff are overrated to.
