Favourite ballads

Yngwie Malmsteen: Dreaming (Tell Me), Forever One, I'm not sure if "Crash and Burn" really counts, but I'd put that as well.

Never thought it was a ballad. What about Prisoner of Your Love?

I forgot about that song.

I should re-listen to The Seventh Sign record. It used to be my favourite by him.

[Edit] Duh! Brothers. My favourite from the record and I didn't even think of it. That's certainly a ballad, in my opinion.

Samson: Communion, Tomorrow or Yesterday

Good choices! I am ashamed to say that I forgot(!) about these ones. Especially Communion is really, really powerful. I love Samson's sensitive guitar work on this one. Fits very well to the slow pace and brings lots of atmosphere. R.I.P. Paul.

Oh, Communion's my favourite. On top of those haunting vocals, you have Paul really ripping it with emotion throughout the whole thing. It breaks my heart every time.

The (God help us) power ballads of the '80's were a stake in the heart of metal bands of that era. Warrant? Firehouse? Should those bands even be mentioned on an Iron Maiden forum? Thankfully, the closest Maiden came to a power ballad was Wasting Love, which was head and shoulders above the dreck that was being spewed out by the majority of the bands of that time. The power ballad was instrumental in my abandoning of certain bands that I had once loved...Scorpions and Def Leppard spring to mind immediately.

Bruce: Tears of the Dragon
Judas Priest: Heart of a Lion, Dreamer Deceiver, Out in the Cold, A Touch of Evil
Megadeth: A Tout Le Monde, Countdown to Extinction

Def Leppard: Bringing on the Heartache
Tom Petty: Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Iced Earth: Watching Over Me
Metallica: Fade to Black, Welcome Home
