You understand that you can be critical of politicians, can give them props for the good but call out the bad, right? Taking offense that someone called him an idiot, considering some of the monstrous shit Churchill did, is cultish behavior. I have always been puzzled by the whitewashing of Winston Churchill. It is either people are not aware of his highly controversial views - even by the standards of that time - and acts (something easily rectified by reading), do not care about them or, even worse, share those views.

You get that this is not helping your case though, right? We aren't in the trenches fighting. It's an enthusiast forum about a heavy metal band. We have folks here with all kinds of backgrounds, with views from around the political spectrum. But we also have a couple of folks who like to make definitive statements that are easily disproven with facts (like when Detective claimed the other day that Pretti rushed at ICE with a gun, when we have videos that show he never once reached for his gun, or when 5 denied earlier that the Greeks resisted/fought against the Axis in WWII despite him being Greek and knowing for a fact that one of two national holidays that we have are to commemorate said resistance).

At that point it's not a matter of "opinion". It's not an opinion to claim "2 + 2 = 5". That's simply wrong. It's not an opinion to say "the sky is yellow and it's raining frogs"; that's also something that we can safely say is wrong. It's not "left wing crap" and "political agendas" to call out wrong information and to set the record straight with facts. It's also not an attack on right wingers either. We wouldn't have to drag out those pesky facts if they wouldn't keep bringing up blatant misinformation.

To get back to Churchill: Do you believe any bad or evil deed a politician has ever made can be ignored and handwaved away, because they achieved success in other parts of their political career? Are we only ever allowed to mention the good, while ignoring the bad?

I am neither a Churchill lover or hater (I admire his oratory, disagree vehemently with many of his decisions) but its a very interesting topic. To express my view concisely I would say that so much of post-WW2 British identity is based around WW2 as something of a foundational myth, that Churchill has become some sort of abstract avatar for 'The Finest Hour' in such a way that his failings before and after this time period are largely ignored.
