Eddie is perched on a fence post

Hmm...

Maiden seems to sit on a metaphorical fence post that intersects four yards:
(1) Classic Hard Rock, (2) Melodic Metal, (3) Vocal Pop, and (4) Symphonic Prog.

When a particular song leans more towards one or two particular yards,
then the listener will appreciate the song proportionately to their opinion of those genres.

For example,
RUN TO THE HILLS leans heavily towards catchy Vocal Pop...
ALEXANDER THE GREAT leans towards Melodic Metal and Symphonic Prog...
and HOLY SMOKE falls into the Classic Hard Rock yard.

For me, the band is at their best when they sit almost centered on the fence post
and try to incorporate two or more of the above genres in a particular song.

:edmetal:

Would the point not be that they've incorporated all of these "genres" in various songs i.e. in their whole oeuvre. They don't need to cram them all into one. I suppose, you could argue, that some newer stuff is very much a bit of all of these though, as you say e.g. El Dorado.

I have no point.
:p

I'm just trying to analytically figure out how all the opinions around here
about this one band's output can vary so widely.
:smartarse:

I've decided that, for each individual song, it all comes down to
the listener's predisposition towards the influential genres mentioned above .
:innocent:

Now I feel better ... I think.

just try not to think about it too much bro! its just great music! period!
