Drums intro on Rainbows Gold

Incredibly fast bass drum pedal work from Nicko on this.
It always impressed me when I first heard the song and then when I actually began playing the drums myself I was astounded as he only ever really used the one pedal.
If you don't play the drums it just seems fast but if you do play you actually realise how super incredible it is!

So, does anyone have any info on this or even have anything to add? Did he use a double pedal for the session? It doesn't sound like it to me listening to the quality of the beats but it's he only way I can believe it.......

PS - Oh yes and a hilarious 'count in' intro as well
PPS - One of the best b-sides in my opinion

Yes that's impressive indeed. Nicko only used double bass on Face in the Sand. The Wicker Man chorus is also very fast. Have you heard this?
Still my favourite live version, and not in the least because of Nicko. Also I like Janick a lot on this one.

I love that tune. Actually (speaking as a drummer of almost 15 years), what he's playing is impressive sounding but in reality not that difficult with a single pedal! Nicko plays with his heel up, making it easy to power through those quick double hits.

Beckett, the band who authored Rainbows Gold, had a pretty fantastic drummer as well, as you can hear on the original:

I actually got in touch with him via YouTube some time back, and he sent me an LP and CD of Beckett's album! It's great stuff.

I disagree that those bass drums beats are not that hard to play with a single pedal but that doesnt really matter - thanks for the link. I love the original version and am now intrigued by the band Beckett
