Welcome to Van Halen 2013!
Rules for Survivors:
If you're new, these games are like the TV show Survivor: vote to eliminate the worst, allowing the best to survive. Always vote for your LEAST favorite songs. On this new forum you have unlimited votes; At the end of a round I'll eliminate the "winners";

We begin with the classic first two albums. This survivor will just include all the DLR albums, with the Hagar albums getting their own survivor later this year. After that, there will be a tournament of champions.

Damn, only the three of us? <_<
Not a bad song on either album. And the debut is one of the best albums ever.
Too bad it set the direction of loud music for the next decade.
Doctor, Bottoms, DOA, Women in Love, Jamie's Crying

I hope you guys see the sense of making Light Up the Sky graduate from II

If only you'd leave DOA and Women In Love alone, those are two of my favorites :P But yes, Light Up The Sky would be up there too.
I'm not a huge fan of II, I felt like a lot of it was stuff that wasn't good enough for the debut. It has great moments but it's one of my least favorite VH albums. The debut however, is awesome of course.

II is nowhere near I, has no truly great songs and does have that leftover tracks feel.
But I can definitely let it roll from start to finish. In terms of the respective bands discography, it has a lot in common with Maiden's Killers.

I can agree with most of that, but Killers is one of my favorites. That's a different topic though. II isn't bad, least favorite Van Halen really isn't saying much, especially when talking about the DLR era. And yea, the few times I do listen to it, I listen to the entire thing.

I'll be playing this I've decided, I do need a refresher on some of these songs though so will do that when I get some time.

DOA is promoted to the quarterfinals and Light Up The Sky is promoted to semifinals.
Women and Children First has joined the battle!

This is one of the first heavy rock albums I ever bought.
Have not put it on in a long time, but it is very solid. Eddie is getting heavier and more experimental.

Feel Your Love
Everybody Wants Some

This is a weird album for me, I'm never sure where to place it. I like most of the songs, the 3 that got eliminated are the only ones I don't care for. But I don't really like the rough punky style of the album. I feel like there are less memorable riffs and solos and that aggressiveness was the goal here. It's great if that's what you like, but that's never been my favorite side of Van Halen.

I agree that it's a slippery one to categorize.
I do like the gritty edge, which gets even more pronounced on the next album.
Yet the final two songs show some very mature melodies.
And I like the way Eddie pushed the songwriting envelope overall.
Yet I'd call it an interesting album before I'd call it a great one.
