You've got some good points there but let me make one last comment (or maybe you would like to add something to this). The thing is you was not the thing offending me, it was someone was using the "Huh?"-comment two weeks after the thread died and also using that comment on my post. I think I already made clear that was my opinion and it's not that I was claiming something what wasn't making sense. I was just pointing out what I thought. Then if you are talking about what you think, do you think it isn't offending if people are pulling some of those :: faces and make the well-known "huh"-sound.

As for your post, I think you might've got a point that I was talking bullshit the last few posts but at least I made clear my point. I just couldn't let people making such comments on my post if I didn't even said anything wrong. I hope this is settled now.
 
If you felt offended by my post above, then I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention. I merely wanted to point out that your statement is pretty much the opposite of the facts. Everybody knows Maiden were "drifting apart" in the 90's, not only some of the band members (Bruce/Steve), but also the songwriting.

The songs on FOTD are all very different in style and the quality varies from excellent (Afraid To Shoot Strangers, Fear Of The Dark) to some of the worst songs Maiden have recorded (Fear Is The Key, The Apparition, Weekend Warrior), which gives the album a very loose, uneven feel.

POM, however, is regarded as one of the classic albums by Iron Maiden, and a classic album of Heavy Metal in general, the songs fit very nicely together, which gives it a great feel.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but you should be prepared to receive comments like mine if you post a statement like you did. [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /]
 
It wasn't that offensive but I think if you said that the first time it wouldn't have been that much of a point. But about what you said I must agree the songs on Piece of Mind are all about at the same level and Fear of the Dark is a little more dynamic on that scale.

I was thinking about the concept and style of playing. If you look at Piece of Mind. First on the album there is a song about an in my opinion terrible film, I don't know how they could've finished watching it, but they even made a song about it. After that you will have songs about all kind of unrelated to each other subjects and it finishes with a very big contrast to the opener. To Tame a Land is about Dune of course, many people label it as a great book, mine hasn't arrived yet so I will find out later on. The contrast is obvious. To Tame a Land is about a desert, a far, warm, mysterious planet, at least I experience it that way. As for Where Eagles Dare, I can't get the picture of a badly edited cable car climbing on to the castle in the middle of a dark, cold, snowy night out of my head. This might be the main reason why I think Piece of Mind hasn't got any feeling to me.

Now about Fear of the Dark. It might not have the best songs on it but if you listen to it you'll experience some similarity. All the songs have darker subject (except for From Here to Eternity, I've always hated that song); Corruption, phobias, poverty, the dark side of love. Also the music fits with each other, or that's just my opinion.

So if you would ask me Still Life or Fear is the Key I would go for Still Life but if you would ask me Piece of Mind or Fear of the Dark I would certainly go for Fear of the Dark.

I hope this was enough information for you all to understand my point of view, I get yours, but I think it's hard to describe why I think I like Fear of the Dark is better than Piece of Mind but one thing is for sure. You can't change anything about it.

You're entitled to your opinion and to make a fool of yourself by making such statements. But you should only watch films that you can understand, I think. @ Bunkle: I honestly don't care about the films that the songs are based on, when I listen to the music.

And you mentioned the "style of playing" on the albums - you don't really want to say that the playing on FOTD is better than on POM?
 
I wouldn't say better nor worse. It's different and I like it. It seems to have a dark atmosphere.

And Maverick, I know about the Second World War and the Eagles Nest, although I'm not an expert, so I don't care if you think I'm a fool by liking Monty Python better.

Anyway, reading your posts is always a pleasure. Seeing people so dumb makes me feel almost intelligent. The overall sound of the album, to me it feels like every song is part of a whole concept. That's not what I think of Piece of Mind. I don't know precisely what it is but I do know I think it's great. Maybe it's just the experience of how you first liked the album, how much you listened to it and under what circumstances.
That also counted for my first experience with the movie Where Eagles Dare. An idle summer evening with nothing good on television so let's just watch an old movie that's on. I've also mentioned that I couldn't imagine someone to watch the whole thing as I didn't. This was before I knew the song so maybe I will be more interested in it the next time I see it. (Let's see if you can mark some stupid things I said from this post too)

Maiden being classified as "Power Metal" bothered me too. Maiden was definately a big influence to many power metal bands, but power metal they are not.
