Dickinson's fist recording? Speed: Man in the Street/Down the Road

In 1980, I went to a gig by a band called Speed in Southend with one Bruce Dickinson being their lead vocalist. I am now selling a single I bought at that concert. Possibly the first ever Bruce Dickinson recording. It's a double A-side called Man in the Street/Down the Road. Please head over to ebay if you're interested. My username is the same on ebay (jellyfishjams) Thanks!

Re: Dickinson's first recording? Speed: Man in the Street/Down the Road

True - it could have even been '78/'79. It was such a long time ago, I can't remember much about it at all to be honest!

I thought Bruce said on "The Voice Of Crube" that "Dracula" was his first recording, and I think that was before Speed.

Regardless, if this Speed single is the real thing, it's still very early. Maybe the second recording after "Dracula".

I think you're probably right.
Although the Speed record was released and dated 1980, I've heard that it was recorded in 1978. It looks like Dracula was recorded in '77 (?)

By the way, if anyone's been looking for this on ebay and couldn't find, it's because I listed it under 'Man on the Street' instead of 'Man in the Street'. Doh!  :P

In any case, this might be Bruce's first released recording. And that's still a pretty cool thing. So give jellyfishjams some credit, it's normal that you don't remember every single detail after thirty years.

I give him credit for offering this item for sale but I guess one can expect it that someone on this Maidenfans forum would point out that Bruce wasn't in that band anymore in 1980. No harm done, I guess.

Ah, and let's not forget there's Samson's 2nd album Head On (also released in 1980) but I am not sure in which month it came out (same goes for Man In The Street).
